my problems with purevideo have no rhyme or reason.
I have a 1.7ghz PC with purevideo & a radeon 9550.
Playback is flawless.
I have a 2.5ghz celeron with an nvidia 5200, playback stutered.

I have a p3 1.3 ghz radeon 9550.
purevideo stuttered.

I was fooling around with an Athlon 700mhz with an nvidia 5200 for playback only.

No stuttering.

I need to start looking at version info for system files as only two of these were fresh installs, one works the other dosen't.

Those that have given me stuttering I switched to winDVD because I had it.
I'm not exactly happy with the picture quality, but it's smooth.

You some up my reasons for looking for a purevideo replacement. There is just no consitancy - with one install in works with another it does not.

with vmr my playback is fine
with vmr custom thats when i dont like it but we have no choice it has been forced on us
thats why lesser systems in the past have worked fine
its something to do with direct3d not working with something else or some sort of conflict with frequencies but i cant get the refresh rate where i want it with the new drivers from nvidia

Which Intervideo WinDVD do you have? Are you using VMR9?

if you playback on windvd or power dvd
you will find its only using vmr not vmr custom(direct3d)
thats why playback will be smooth
the reason we are forced to use vmrcustom is because people hassled sub about his software not looking as flashy as others
so now we get nice smooth animations but our playback is jerky

Since this thread has been pretty active I am going to try and find time tonight to test a few things. I had tested the vmrcustom at one time but left it with vmr9 and didn't have stuttering or tearing with the Intervideo codec. I had started to try to document differences between codecs and settings but stopped due to lack of time. Hopefully I find time tonight.

but if your using pvrx2 you have no choice
it doesnt matter what you set it to in config its still uses vmr custom

another thing
it was ages ago when i brought my card
anyway it was showing as a nvidia 6200 with 162.18 forceware drivers
well today i removed the driver and put it back to an older one 81.98 and now it shows up as a 6600 which is what its meant to be
me having a bad memory had forgotten it was meant to be a 6600
just you had asked what my specs were

i think 6600 is just a 6200 beefed up in some way

Not all Nvida driver are equal. 81.98 was regarded as one of the best if you believe the boffins on the AVS forum.

I didn't know that about PVRX2 and vmr custom. Is that so even if Nvidia codec or Intervideo codec is used? Yes, a 6600 is supposed to be better than a 6299. I think the 6600 came out after the 6800 too. I used to have a 6600 for gaming but the loudness of the fan got on my nerves so I got rid of it.
