ok, an update >- it seems the choppy picture is not a processor issue or encoding one as usage never really hits 50%. The problems starts at source when I scan for new channels I get the same problem here as in normal Live viewing. In effect the quality if fine and signlal is good but it stutters ever 2-3 seconds.

I just wonder if this is a USB2 issue? seems odd mind...

Anyone an ideas?

you could try setting the video card to force wait for vertical sync
and turn off/down all 3d acceleration in video card settings (antilaising etc)

if you do a recording then play it back whats the picture like (with no recording going on while watching)

How fast is the CPU in the laptop & what type of graphics does it have?

Also, what is the speed of the hard drive?

Its a Dell D600 laptop with a Intel Pentium M 1.6Mhz and 512MB memory

Tried also seperate PCBUS usb 2 devices and the results are the same.

Tempted to try on my P4 3ghz desktop to see the results too.

Cheers

I've never used a pentium m, but I don't think that laptop has the grunt to do HD.
