Hello,

I have been using my HD-PVR 2 model 1512 for over 2 years. Its grabs signal from an HDMI splitter (for obvious reasons) which is feed from my STB. It has been working great, until the HD-PVR 2 finally gave up the ghost.

I was able to even stream the signal over the internet (gigabit connection) and not just within my LAN.

So my question is, do I buy another HD-PVR 2 (1080p 30fps) or is there different external or internal HDPVR that is capable of 1080p at 60fps instead of 30fps that compatible with NextPVR?

I have  been looking an so far I keep coming back to the HD-PVR 2.

I was looking at the Hauppage HD-PVR Pro 60HD but it is unclear if it will work with NextPVR.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance

If you can give up AC3 and an on board blaster, I'd consider a generic Chines web based HDMI encoder. These run on any NextPVR platform and don't require any driver other than what you use for blasting.

Mine does HEVC (which costs more) and h264, and it allows m3u8 and ts streaming and has multiple bitrate and resolution pages. No splitter was required. I can use lirc or firewire on linus for tuning.

I'm not sure if your STB would ever output 1080p, so there might not be much to gain from a change of device.

I think it would, but realistically I'd probably go with the much more standard/common HD-PVR2.

There are other options, like the TBS2603, which are basically a HDMI network encoder device. There is a few similar devices on AliExpress which do this same thing. (and they typically don't need HDMI splitter to remove HDCP)

Thank you so much for both of your responses. I am looking at both options now. To tell you the truth I did not even know TBS2603 type pf devices exsits. The youtube videos are sorts shotty.

mvallevand, could you recommend a Chinese web based HDMI encoder, there are quite a few options and I am trying not to get stung.

Thank you both.

I don't want to recommend mine an URay UHE265-1L http://szuray.com/ simply because I only have had it for one month, but it has been flawless never needing a reboot. I've even connected their tech support and received their API etc

There are also too many configurations to say what might meet your needs. Mine is more expensive because of HEVC and the HDMI passthrough for the most part you probably don't need that.

Again make sure you have a channel tuning exe you can use with it.

There are also comments on the SageTV forums about the BMT1000 and BMT3000 and they seem very similar.

Make sure when you are shopping you look for Encoders not Decoders, Decoders won't help capture.

The other option for 2020 is to note the fact that because of cord cutting it is becoming quite easy to simple replace an HDPVR with a used on. I know locally on Kijiji they regularly go for $50.

So, my HDPVR 1212 no longer works with this week's Windows 10 update (after 12 reboots, unplugging everything, checking the camera security settings, etc.), and I'm honestly tired of dealing with USB capture devices (and Windows 10, but that's a problem for another day).  So I decided to look for an alternative and found this thread.  I'm thinking about this one (it looks like it's the H264 version of the one you got).

http://szuray.com/h-pd-133.html

It looks like I would set this up as an IPTV device and then add all the channels manually mapped to the same URL and the appropriate exe setup for my separate blaster program.  Is that right?  And I think I saw you say a couple posts up it doesn't require an HDMI splitter to work either?  It would be nice to get rid of the gaggle of analog/S-PIDF cables too.

I think my device is closer to http://szuray.com/h-pd-36.html#_pp=0_304_10_-1 because I have the HDMI out port too, but that is it.

I have no experience with IPTV devices using a blaster but I use it in v5 as an extra which works very well and you don't have to monkey with an m3u file to add channels. I do find the picture a bit dark at times. Yes you can use on IP or since you can configure multiple stream qualities, you could vary quality and bit rate based on the content and channel number.

I do miss the 5:1 sound though but I've talked to the devs and it is not on their radar.

As Martin hints at, it's easier to set up this type of device on v5. In v4 you have to do some stuff like creating an m3u file, with a couple of line for each channel.

Thanks.  I'm going to go ahead and order the device.  I'll just have to live with stereo sound, but since most of what we record is OTA with another device I don't think it'll be a huge loss.  My alternative is Playon, and that won't do live TV, is limited to 720p, and also does only stereo sound.  So the network encoder at least gets me 1080p and live TV.  Two out of three isn't bad.

As an experiment I added an IPTV channel and then exported the channel so I could look at the XML.  Then I exported all the HDPVR channels and edited that file to make it look like the IPTV export.  Imported it into the IPTV device and at least got 75 channels that look right.  I'll have to do another export/import with the correct IP of the encoder, but if that works I might just stay on v4 for now.

Looks like it could be up to four weeks before it gets here, so then again maybe I'll take the time to upgrade to v5 on my Windows machine.
