You can choose between the VMR9, Overlay and EVR renderer on the playback tab of the config app.

Many nvidia card owners have tearing problems with VMR. (regardless of app)

Yeah, I'm figuring that out. The default renderer is VMR-7 which seems to work well. PVRX2 calls VMR-9, which doesn't work well with nvidia. I think I will use the overlay renderer and call it a day for now.

I am using NVIDIA PureVideo with VMR9 in PVRX2 with no tearing problems (sorry).

What version of nvidia drivers are you using? Its also possible that your card is much more powerful and that through brute force, you have alot more headroom.

I have two GeForce 7300 GTs (though not running SLI - each runs a single display) and apparently with the 169.21 driver (which is wierd, as mine is an XP system and this is a Win2K driver - don't ask me how that happened!).

In fact - I just checked on the nVidia site, using both their automated update service and the manual one - and apparently the 169.21 is the latest driver for XP too - its just that the installer places it in a 'Win2K' subfolder on the C drive just to confuse people!

I put an ATI 2400XT PCIe card in to try it out. It works ok, but I still have horrible stuttering when I enable hardware decoding with Purevideo. There has to be something I am overlooking. I have another system running a slower CPU and an ATI 1650XT card, and it works just fine with PVRX2 and the Purevideo decoder using hardware decoding. Both computers have the same codec packs installed and the same operating system. Both are nvidia based motherboards. Both run windows XP Pro.

I might just keep the ATI 2400XT anyway. The ATI HDMI sound works much better with this card than it did with the motherboard based HDMI.
