the same error like the old version.
I checked alos the logs, no new infos. Every time the same like the older one.

Its very strange, the older version (2.0.227) was working. Maybe you can give me the older one? So will try and check.

Sorry but I won't be releasing older versions of the program. I know that many people hold onto older versions so they can go backwards. But I do not want to go backwards.

There's no doubt that the problem is the difference between English and German. I have not hardcoded 'Program Files' anywhere, but rather the system variable for Programfiles.

I will have to look a little deeper...

No I do not want you to do that. I'm sure it will work, but that's not the solution. Please give me some time to solve this

Hi Frank,

ok no problem you have all time of the world. Smile

But only for you information, I have it reinstalled and test it with directory 'Prorgamm Files' and now it works. Big Grin

So I guess it is a problem with directory 'Program Files'.

Mayby you have overlook something?

Anyway it is a very nice tool and I hope you can solve the problem.
Thank you for help and work.
Keep it up.

Hi Frank,

one problem solve and new problem occurred.

Now it works manually (Ztranscode) but when I started via MVP the Zprozess quit.
In the log files is mantioned: "Transcoder died early.."
Just like the same error in threat:
'Zprocess transcode onMVP - "Transcoder died early" explained.

Do you have any idea?
Thanks and best regards

well first off, if you wouldn't mind, I have a new version on the wiki that should not need to worry about "Program Files" and should work with any spelling of localized Program Files folders...

Could you test that please? (remember to delete or rename your temporarily created "C:\Program Files" folder.

Also, you might want to run RemoveAllZprocess.reg and then you can start over with new settings...

Now, if this works, we can move onto the the other issue.

ZProcess/ZTranscode might die early because you did not have enough preplaydelay. That's why it would work in Manual, but dies during auto...

Increase your preplay delay to about 10000 (default is 5500) to start with and then you can turn it down.

Hint: if you have the latest version of GB-PVR and this patch (sub provided during development stage) you will be able to adjust the preplay delay from the settings menu in GB-PVR...

Hi Frank,

ok i have tested several preplay delay times but it don't works.
Regardless of which time I use the zprozess killed after around 10 sec.

So that means I can see the film for aprox 10 sec and then MVP crashed back to menu.

ATM I have no idea whats happen, I am littlebit helpless.
I hope you have a idea!

If you need logs please tell me...
Thanks and best regards

OK, what follows has not been documented. So you shouldn't be surprised if there's new info here. I have had a few features in ZTranscode for a while and it's very handy

First if you'll notice a couple of things in the ZTranscode window. 3 groups of numbers and a framerate...

When you manually transcode you need the framerate to be above 30 fps. (For PAL, You might get away with 25, but I can't be certain)

That means that as the file is being transcoded, ZProcess has to keep ahead of the MVP displaying the video. IN theory, you should have more than 30, so that ZProcess can out pace your viewing...

Now, you will notice the three numbers. From left to right, your have 'hits' 'strikes' and 'fouls'

And also look at the Settings screen...

You will see a safe fps and a critical fps.

Back to the main screen...

When ever ZTranscode sees a framerate of higher than the safe fps, it reports a 'hit'. And ZTranscode counts up all the hits, and the number ascends. When it reaches 20, it starts again at 0 When in the safe range, ZTranscode runs at below normal cpu priority...

Whenever ZTranscode sees a framerate between the safe fps and the critical fps, it reports a 'strike', and it becomes a little worried and raises the CPU priority of ZTranscode and the transcoder (MEncoder or FFmpeg) to normal. This helps the transcoder to work harder, but it steals focus from other processes. At this time, you might notice your computer to be a little sluggish.

Now if this cpu priority does help the framerate and the FPS gets better, and into the safe zone, it starts to see just how long it stays in the safe zone. It needs 20 consecutive 'Hits' to allow ZTranscode back into the default Below Normal CPU Priority.

If the framerate ever dips below the critical value, then ZTranscode reports a 'foul' and then gives all CPU power to the transcoder. This will kill the speed of anything else running on your computer, but it will give ZTranscode one final chance before it crashes.... I have seen my computer pull out of a dive this way, and the system does work.

The best values are: critical= 28 and safe = 33

Now, every time you transcode something, I keep a log of the fps. You can look in your mvp_cache folder (located in the Recordings Directory) and see the fps.log for the show you tried...

Code:
*** FPS Log Started: 2008-03-31 4:03:31 PM
*** (Polling fps at .25 seconds)
0
0
0

53
53
54
54
54
55
56
56
57
57
57
57
57

The first few ticks will be at 0 while the transcoder fires up. Each tick is a quarter second, so if there are too many, that's a problem right there. If the fps is lower than 33 (or 28) then you're definitely in trouble....

In the ZProcess.log you'll see...
Code:
2008-03-31 4:32:21 PM : ZT: 59 fps - Framerate dropped to between 58 and 60. A little worried. Increasing Priority to Normal.
2008-03-31 4:32:28 PM : ZT: 61 fps is fast enough that we will try the default CPU Priority again.

2008-03-31 4:32:48 PM : ZT: 59 fps - Framerate dropped below 60 fps. Crash Positions!  Cranking Priority to Above Normal as last ditch
2008-03-31 4:33:02 PM : ZT:      Transcoder died early.. Tell ZTranscode to close.  Leave ZProcess running
2008-03-31 4:33:02 PM : ZT: Closes properly

Please note, that I fudged the critical and safe numbers, to bring my system to it's knees and create the example. In this example I had the safe value at 60 and the critical set to 58....

Anyway, if you have a crash, or ZProcess died early, you can see exactly when it started having trouble, and whether your computer is able to transcode quick enough...
