Sorry folks,

I've been away for a while so unable to put any time towards this. I shall certainly get going on a howto however, there seems to be a few ways to do this and so I don't want to be seen as the "definative" guide.

Let me work on it for a while and I'll get back to you.

Wow, it's rare to search the internet and find someone who has done EXACTLY what you're trying to do. Smile

I have a dishpro stacked LNB, which works great with DVBDream & Emunation. Unfortunately, getting GB-PVR to work with these has been like pulling teeth. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Here is another vote to have this "how-to". I would love to get information.
I am a newbee at this and any help would be appreciated.

Also, any special settings on the IR-Blaster for the CaptiveWorks 800s? Which one did you use?

Hi Folks,

I finally was able to write up some notes on my EmuNation install.

Check this out.

Setup EnuNation on GBPVR HowTo

Firstly, please don't think that this is a "definitive" guide. There are many ways to kill a cat. This is just one.

Secondly, you'll have heard many horror stories from folks whom have tried to get EmuNation working on GBPVR. It's really very easy if you have the right tools and you understand how it all works.

Thirdly I've assumed that you have got your satellite card working and you can see a bunch of channels. Frankly this is self explanatory when adding a new digital source.

Let's look at what EmuNation (or any CAM for that matter) does. The function of a Conditional Access Module is to get in the way of the picture stream and decrypt it (or not). It is able to decrypt the picture because it is equipped the appropriate decoder for the encryption method used.

In the case of EmuNation the encryption method varies (it can decrypt a handful of different methods). These methods are all digital picture methods. It cannot decrypt analogue pictures.

To enable decryption one must be in posetion of the relevant key. These keys are changed often by the SatTV broadcasters to prevent unauthorised access and protect revenue. Your installed version of EmuNation may be able to track these key changes or it may not. If not you'll need to upgrade your install. Other subtle changes to the encryption may also happen which my or may not obfiscate your pictures.

OK, download the following tools;

Latest version of EmuNation (I get mine from http://www.ftabins.net)
FFDecsa
Mdapifilter

Install the Mdapifilter and the FFDecsa into c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr and register them (read their instructions for more info)

Create a sub directory called AV1 in c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\MDplugins.

Open the EmuNation zip file and copy the pthread dll file into c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr.

Still in the EmuNation zip file copy the contents of the plugins subdirectory to c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\mdplugins\av1.

Now you need a copy of the file with all the keys in it. Given enough time (and an infinite amount of monkeys) EmuNation will work out the current keys for itself. However, this could take all day and so you should follow the link in the EmuNation README file for the latest copy. Place this file in c:\program files\devnz\gbpvr\mdplugins\av1 and rename it to Softcam.key

Now we are ready to watch TV. Navigate to your chosen channel and watch. You may be presented with a black screen for quite a considerable time. Don't panic. Just because you have the latest key file doesn't mean that you possess all the subtle variations. Sit tight and wait for EmuNation to hack the picture. These variations happen constantly and so whilst you had a "working" setup yesterday you may not have one today. I've found that if you don't run EmuNation for a while it gets out of step with the encryption and so has to work on it all over again.

To test EmuNation and the plugins etc configure your front end to display in a window and then watch your channel. You should note a small DVB icon appear in the menu bar near the clock. Right click this icon and select EmuNation and then Show Info. You'll get a window pop up and it should display a whole bunch of hex. This is EmuNation working on the keys. You may see a message every now and then about how you're missing xzy RSA key. Just hang in there and eventually it'll get it.

As soon as the keys and variations are collected your picture will appear.

Whenever there is an "ECM" from the SatTV companies it's possible that EmuNation will not be able to decode the pictures. When this happens you'll need to upgrade your EmuNation package and place it in the relevant directory structure. Make sure to back up your Softcam.key file and replace it when you're done upgrading.

That's it!!

Sorry, off topic, but I'm one oif the droids. I agree with your statement wholly. Though we are not allowed to go into your attic and run cable there, because of 'confined space' and saftey hazard...

That said, I went into the attic for my own home, and would never rely on a wireless network for TV (even though it's getting better)

There are a few more points that I would like to add and put this into a wiki page. Do you mind?

zehd- you might want to make this a little more generic and perhaps "cleaner" as some of this really speaks more to the dark sides of this technology than really should be discussed here. I would try to dumb it down to the directory installation, filter locations, registering filters, etc and a general statement "consult the plugin sites for more information on working with the plugins"

Just my 2 cents worth to keep this site on the proper track.

Yes. I know. And yet. No One comes clean on the general process for doing this...

I'm totally cool with not mentioning software names and links. But I think it should be an A to B to C to (well, er) Zehd

Just so people know nwhere to start looking and what things are called... Kinda like when people talk about ripping DVDs...
