i plan on using it as either a client or main server if i can get enough goodies into it..[HD,dvd,capture] [but probably use your mvpmc on client if all works well]

tho i suspect we'll have to wait a bit for compatible cases...not many meet the requirements needed yet...

and i completely agree on the M$ tax...especially on network areas..M$ usually wastes half your speed for nothing...i haven't done any linux wireless tests but wired access is twice as fast for me in linux..even with windows tweaks... i suspect wireless is also more efficient in Linux...[it's the win tcp stack that sucks=all networking]

i suspect that it'll work very well with hd even on the G945 [Atom] mini board too...
so hoping you'll write it in a way that'll work on that platform as well..Smile
for 80$ with proc it's a steal and available now down the street..
[plus less requirements extras-wise[ps,case]]

also not bad as far as pricing from what i'm seeing so far..around 150$ compares to their G35 ATX boards..Smile

i'll test for you when ready..Big Grin
[as soon as i can get one of them..lol]

I didn't think the Atom supported HDMI.

so true...wondering if any of the other makers will come out with an alternative board like they are for the dg45...but it's been a while and no companies have even mentioned it..

as long as dg45 doesn't take another 6 mos. to come out, that's what i'm gettin..Big Grin
tho the cat and mouse game is already being played by Intel..
now you see it, now you don't...

[watch, right before x-mas it'll come out.like november..lol]

dg45fc on sale now at Dell 126$ Big Grin
they've been doing all their work on graphics drivers for this chipset, almost forgot about the other ones in recent releases.. they even 'archived' the g965 stuff..Sad
[so don't expect much work on g965 bugs anytime soon]

one thing good about Intel, they don't give up on the drivers, eventually they'll be nice..Smile
haven't heard about the linux drivers tho..probably way behind still...

Linux g45 driver support appears pretty good right now http://www.phoronix.com/vr.php?view=12671 and people mentioning that it runs xmbc for linux

I've decided to go uATX, the height required for the fan makes mini-itx seem unnecessary.

yep,i'm goin for a dg45id myself as well...even tho i've found fans that fit, you can't fit many drives in those boxes and having them external seems to defeat the purpose..
plus it's cheaper...Smile

kudos to Intel for keeping on top of things, seems it is Linux that is lagging behind..lol
looking forward to release of Gallium3d and the other new accell standards...
[and seeing mvpmcx2 fly on Linux!]

i'll have my board here this week so if you need any testers let me know..
[no doubt it's still a long way off tho]
found mine locally in stock for 111$ [DG45ID]

I canceled my order for the BOXDG45ID (it was backordered) because I wanted to rethink the CPU. I was contemplating integrating emulation mode in xbmc for linux but they pretty much demand a 3.0 Mhz CPU, and I had only ordered a E7200.

i'm hoping someone starts making an Atom/US15W combo for the diy pvr crowd. on paper, this combo looks perfect for a hd frontend. everything i see is for the embedded market. this is the closest i've found. even microstar markets it under 'industrial computing'. i can't even find any place selling it.

intel looks to be backing moblin.org, but it will not gain momentum if there aren't any cheap target devices.

Certainly in the context of the subject and the Via EPIA, the Atom (there is a dual core Atom now) might cut it as a single purpose backend, but I just can't imagine it as an HD frontend.
