I got my hands on a "175.19_geforce_winxp_32bit_english_whql.exe" driver. It seems the "75.19" is the build (maybe) of the driver, i.e once updated the driver version becomes something like "6.14.11.7519".
Thanks for the heads-up, maybe I should try the latest beta driver.

have you tried turning all your 3d settings lower or off then turning them back on one by one...
Which 3d settings - you mean in nvidia control panel?

stustunz Wrote:what renderer are you using?
You mean renderer or decoder? For renderer I think just the default "VMR9 Fullscreen..." Wouldn't the decoder be just as important (to achieve efficient throughput)? It certainly seems to make a difference when I change decoders (some are choppy, some not).
For the last couple of weeks it seems I was using an 'Elecard' decoder that came with the HDPack, but suddenly started displaying 'evaluation expired' so I've uninstalled it and gone back to the PDVD8 decoder.

Encouraging to know it can be sorted... what sort of hardware and broadcast are you using?

Pob Wrote:One thing to check is denoise in the video card driver settings.
Thanks, another useful setting to check!

if using fse the the 3d settings in the nvidia control panel is what controls what you see on screen
if using evr or overlay im not sure they make such a difference
i was trying to figure out your setup
yes the decoder can make a big difference but the 3d settings are like the fine tuning of what ever decoder you use
make sure you have force bob selected if using powerdvd8 seems to help

Thanks for the tips. I've often seen 'overlay' mentioned... I used to be familiar with the ins & outs of that with my old analog bt848 card, but is there anywhere (in the wiki? FAQ?) that explains it in terms of GBPVR?

Also, I installed FDshow but I'm really unsure what it's all about. Initially I got the vibe that it was a bad thing to use because it's all software-based and will put a load on the CPU... but having installed it, in one part of the config it lists a huge number of decoders. Is FDshow just a management tool for other things already on your system, a set of decoders in their own right, or something else?? There's a truckload of stuff to fiddle with, so I'm not sure if I want to try using it or not... Some FAQ tips say that FDshow is no good on slow machines, while others say things like "Remove AC3Filter. If you were using AC3Filter before, you can try and use FFDshow for the Audio as it has an AC3 Decoder as well as a DTS decoder"

Confused and overwhelmed by too many things that may or may not help...

because your doing dvbt which is hd i would stick with power dvd8
h264 decoder required which means big load on cpu if you dont make use of the gpu(video card processor)
evr in XP wont use hardware acceleration(again referring to video card processor)

by all means have a play with ffdshow but you may find the cpu usage hitting 100%
it does have its own decoder but you have to download the correct version for h264 from memory
yeah there are lots of setting who knows what half of them do
i found power dvd8 the best alround video decoder of old and new formats
