so perhaps thats the first step that should be placed at the top of the items when working with a front end like gamezone. The emulator needs to be tested working on its own prior to trying with gamezone.

the only issue I have had with mame is that they are forever changing romsets and support for the roms this can lead with many roms that worked great in one version suddenly complaining that something is missing and no longer working.

can you provide details of which version of mame you have the type of mame as there are many. and a game you are trying to run. lets see if we can assist in getting mame working qalthough TBH there is loads of info on the net for mame.

Cheers

Yes I am using the regular Mame from your link onthe wiki version 127. Some of the games i am trying are cadillacs and dinosaurs, The punisher, samurai showdown. I even DL the mame127 rom set from torrent and tried a few of those all give the same error. I was able to play cadillacs and dinosaurs, The punisher, samurai showdown on MAME32 maybe I just need to try and incorporate that into gamezone.
I read through some of the mame docs and created the config and all of that. I looked at Mame forums for the errors I was getting and didnt really come up with a good solid answer differnt from what I have already tried.

could you be more specific.

whats the command line you are running
is it the standard win32, 686 optimised or 64bit version you downloaded
whats the error you are getting

Cheers

[EDIT]
I have downloaded

mame0127b.exe 7099 KB Download MAME 0.127 Windows command-line binaries.

this version from the link and using this commandline

H:\MameTest>mame -rompath X:\Emulators\Mame32\roms X:\Emulators\Mame32\roms\88games.zip

and this worked fine. of course I have good romsets there is an option for mame to tell you if you have issues with your romsets try looking through mame -showusage

Hey I finally got back to this my main computer crapped out on me so I am just getting back to it. I tried the command line like the one you show here but I get the same result. It goes into the loading screen and then loads 5% and closes the screen. I will have a look at show usage. This command line still gives me the file not found messages on the mame command window.

A little update here what I have found out is that there is an issue with my mame version that I am using however I downloaded MAME32 and renamed the exe to just Mame now on my HTPC when I run the command line MAME GameName it runs so it runs using the MAME32 via command line. however when I go into Gamezone and put in the location of the renamed MAME32 exe all works till you select a game at which point the game loads the files just like when PVRX2 is not running except after it appears to load the files which is a box with a progress bar it seems to hang and does not run or leave the PVRX screen.

I don't believe mame32 has been updated in years. its now called mameui and has a built in UI. please select a version of mame that is supported, provide issues clearly when you have mame.exe working with the command line and not in gamezone. gamezone was only tested with the versions in the wiki. any others that work should be considered a bonus.

Thanks

In setting up MAME 128 with GameZone, I found it necessary to generate a mame.ini file (mame -createconfig) and update the ROM path in that file. Until doing that, all games would report all their files as missing.

My ROMs were not in the default path that MAME expects them; I imagine if one were using the default ROM path under the MAME directory it wouldn't matter.

It doesn't seem like this should be necessary given that gamezone passes the rom path to mame, but that's what made it work for me. Perhaps this will help divinehammer or others.

never heard of the Mame 128 varient, does that mean they have removed the argument from the commandline to specify the room path in latest Mame? or they support it but its not working either change of syntax or bug?

Cheers

no, I mean the latest release of MAME, .128, straight from mame.net, released October 16.

I don't know why the rom path being passed on the command line doesn't work; as the launch screen pops up I don't see any complaint about an unrecognized argument; mame often just won't launch if it doesn't like something on the command line. It launched fine for me though, just claimed all the ROM files were missing.

You may wish to test this version of MAME against GameZone 2.9 and see what you can see. In theory I imagine you'd want to support whatever version of MAME is current at the time of a GameZone is released.

If it's a MAME bug, we'll want to report that to mamedev.
