I just want to watch analog cable tv with my wintv 950.
I cannot get it to work with GBPVR.

I did exactly as posted above .. and it does not work.
My TuningAssistant doesn't recognize the the filter.

I am so confused with this GBPVR.
I have attached my log file.

I'm not sure its compatible with the Tuning Assistant (which isnt needed for using the app). Try using it in the app for live tv, then zip and attach the logs and I'll take a look.

When I select Hauppuage HVR-950 (Analog), and press OK, a warning pops up saying "The Drivers for the device you have configured do not seem to be installed. Are you sure you want to save these current settings?"

However I know the device is available, and it works, because when I load up the WinTV application to watch the live feed of TV, it comes up in that program, but not in GBPVR.

Did you select the 950 or 950Q section? Try it as the 950Q section above, then post the config.exe.log and config.exe-native.log if it still gives you this error.

Some progress!
I chose the Hauppuage HVR-950q (Analog) instead after Sub's suggestion to add the 950q to the direct.ini - it did not come up with the error.

So I went into GBPVR and chose LiveTV .. and now I get a VERY choppy and scrambled snow/green-bar screen for every station.

(I went back to the WinTV app again just to make sure, and the stations come in clear)

Might it be the HRC (cable) frequency overrides that aren't compatible for the 950q?
If so:
a. how do I reset the frequencies back to the original?
b. how do I find the correct frequencies for the 950q?

I am sure I bought the 950, not the 950q, however I have more progress with the 950q settings, in that GBPVR seems to try and get the signals, they are just scrambled.

Judging from your filter log you have a 950q or maybe the wrong drivers installed. My 950q is labeled as such on the device. Hauppauge has been known to substitute a newer model when phasing out an older one though.

I also believe GBPVR needs to have the guide setup in order to turn to a channel. To test you may want to create a temporary account on http://www.schedulesdirect.org, configure your provider on the site and then setup GBPVR to pull the EPG data. This would setup the channels GBPVR will tune to.

Another thing to consider is that both the 950 and 950q use software encoders to encode the analog data. The speed of your system will greatly affect the performance since it will be encoding and decoding the analog stream at the same time. On my 2.4 ghz P4 laptop with a Geforce4 420 go vid chip watching an analog stream uses 80 to 100 percent of the CPU.

The only other things I can think of is if you do not have the MCE Soft encoder installed or have the analog plugin set to antena instead of cable tuning.

Hope any of that helps.

Thanks fyatwyrio.
1. I have already setup the EPG - that is working perfectly.
2. My system has no problems viewing the TV stations with the WinTV application and recordes through that - so I know my system is fast enough to handle this.
(running a P4 3.0GHz, 512MB NVidia GeForce 6800GS/XT, I have a Gig of RAM and over 80 gigs of harddrive space leftover)

After further inspection, I now realize that I was sold the 950q. The packaging box says 950 (no q), but the USB tuner dongle clearly has little Q printed in the smallest font on it!! DOH!!

So now the question is, how do I fix the frequencies back to what they were before I tried adjusting them for the 950 (not the 950q)?

I believe this is the problem.
