The Time Warner cable input enters my attic, goes about 20 feet to a TWC supplied digital cable amp/splitter, from there about 3 feet to the HDHR. So if its low signal, it must be low before getting to the amp. I have called TWC and they are sending a tech on Sunday. What I find odd is 1) that this all worked fine until I tried to upgrade and 2)Why my unsplit OTA signal stopped working also.

That is strange. What signal strength and symbol quality does it show on your HDHomeRun Config (GUI) for channel 80? Or pick any channel, just let me know which one so I can compare it to the scan. Also, does the symbol quality fluctuate or remain constant once locked onto the signal?

Gort10, I just upgraded to the latest HDHomeRun software (I was running the beta). I am now getting signal strength of 75% on what used to be 90%, so it seems that it may not be an issue with your signal.

Can you run a scan in the HDHomeRun Setup? It should produce a Digital Cable.xml file. Post it when you are done.

On channel 80 Signal strength is 77%, Signal quality is 95% and Symbol Quality is 100%. Quality does not fluctuate. I just rescanned on both tuners and enclosed the log.

No channels found.

No Digital Cable.xml file either.

Also I noticed on your Silicondust post that I should be sure that the firewall passes GBPVR.exe. I dont have that file either.

Do you think a reinstall is needed?

GBPVR.exe no longer exists. It's been replaced by PVRx2.exe and is no longer part of the installation. I did notice however that you are using GB-PVR v1.2.13. Try upgrading to 1.3.7.

Thats where the problem began. After I upgraded I got no channels on the scan but also I got fatal errors when I launched pvrx2.exe.

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=39293

Several others reported the same problem and sub reported he would have a look at it when he got back to NZ. So rolled back to 1.2.13 which at least worked for OTA, allowing me to record most things. As of this mornings HDHR software upgrade and change to qammanager.ini OTA is gone also

Ah. I'm not sure if the latest HDHR software will work with 1.2.13 because it addresses the new PID filtering in GBPVR 1.3.7, so you may need to drop that back as well. The QAM.ini manager won't affect OTA at all. OTA uses all.ini

whurlston Wrote:Jsytta, it's possible that you are over amping your signal. If you have an amplifier, try removing it. If not, try adding a couple of splitters to the line and don't terminate the open ports.
Code:
2008-12-10 16:00:03.093    VERBOSE    locked=1    present=1     [color=Red]strength=99[/color]     quality=95
To test to see if it is over amped, run HDHomeRun Config (GUI), tune to channel 92 (you should have a clear QAM channel there) and watch the "Symbol Quality %" for about 30 seconds. It should stay constant at 100%. If it fluctuates, then the signal is over amped. If it doesn't fluctuate, let me know.

Hi whurlston,
I do have an amplifier in the path, I can try your test. There are 2 things to note however:
1) The HDHR picks up all of the stations/signals fine and can be viewed on vlc via the HDHR setup
2) I can use 1.3.7 when the HDHR application is set to atsc/Remap.

Why would the tuner work with digital cable in one firmware mode (atsc/remap) and not another (gbpvr), both have the same electrical signal path?

I seems like an issue with my gbpvr setup and how it tunes into the correct frequencies on the HDHR. Did you see anything suspicious in the log files or Digital Cable.xml besides the signal strength? Did frequencies in the xml file match what you'd expect for the generated 'center frequency' qam.ini file?

Thanks

Are you using the PID filtering program that I created that is configured as the "Channel Changer" executable? If so, this could cause you not to find channels and should be removed. It's not needed anymore anyway.

Yes, those were the frequencies I expected (611250 for channel 92, etc).

Jsytta, I just noticed that you are also running GBPVR 1.2.13. You'll probably either need to drop back to the last release of the HDHR Software (not the betas) or upgrade to GBPVR 1.3.7

Edit: (see second post on the next page)
