I haven't seen that one in particular but I've seen (and built) similar projects. I wonder how many people have been suckered with the "HDTV" antennas. They remind me of "MP3 Compatible" speakers. There is nothing different about the antennas and your 20 y.o. antenna will work just as well. The frequencies being used are exactly the same as they were before. In fact, there will be a lot of p.o.'d people in a couple of weeks when they find out that their old antenna actually works better than their "HDTV" antenna if they purchased one that was UHF only and some of their channels move back to the VHF range.

I discovered a large tv antenna in the attic of my house, and I tried to use it. It should have worked, but all I got from it was sadness. I went round and round with different combinations of cables, amplifiers, amplified splitters, etc. Everything I did made some channels work, others went away. Finally I gave up and bought a $50 Philips "HDTV" antenna (honestly expecting to return it to Fry's after more disappointment). It works pretty well, I can even sniff a few out-of-area channels I really shouldn't be able to catch at all (though I can't actually watch them). It clearly is a UHF antenna; the VHF Lo channels hardly come in at all. Lucky for me, the local broadcasters here are abandoning VHF Lo - according to antennaweb, the three stations with their analog broadcasts in the VHF Lo range are going to leave their digital broadcasts on UHF. The VHF Hi channels will be used for digital after Feb 17th, but my antenna seems to do a pretty good job with those. It remains to be seen what will actually happen in a couple of weeks though... what looks like 'pretty good' to me on analog now may be unusable for digital.
