Upload a 100MB ts sample to megaupload and I will have a go. The few samples I have play on the PC.

I imagine it would play fine, with wav or with mp3 audio.

I was hoping if your felt up to the challenge that you'd try to add mp3 or wav as a second audio track with the existing aac as track 1.

Why do you need aac and pcm, though they should be the same quality?

And I did run your file through TSMux and it works to create a .ts too, so you don't have to use mkv.

i guess no reason. Ok I should try that ts mux.

I'm trying it on a 1hr dvb-t recording, and it's taking a long time, so it may not be a process i can use... Although it is a tv3 recording which has the aac and ac3, so technically i don't need to do it, apart from seeing how long it will take.

One of the reasons I wanted a 100MB sample was to extrapolate the time. To rip the two streams and create an mkv on my low-end C2D system took 8 seconds and to create a ts stream took 12 seconds and since disk i/o is the bottleneck (audio transcoding is not complex) you shouldn't be seeing too much difference. I figure a one hour show should take about 10 minutes.

THough I haven't tried this process out, whenever I convert AAC-HE LATM to PCM and mux it back with the original H.264 audio, there is always an audio discrepency, sometimes delay, sometimes advance. And it's variable.

Dgavcindex often will indicate what the delay is by inserting DELAY -nnnms in the output filename and inserting that back in txmuxer will usually work

I also use another process whereby I load the ts file into Virtualdub and with the Cyberlink PDVD8 Demux can see the audio and convert to PCM. But delays exist there also

I can't work out how your batch application can handle this variable delay?

Of course we just want Syabas to get their act together and implement AAC-HE support in the PCH so we can stop all this nonsense

it doesn't...and as i proved yesterday something with the wav went into the mkv at the wrong speed.

If I used your dgavcindex then i could extract the audio delay from the filename and add it to the mkvmerge as that has that facility.

On the pc the wav is fine, it was on the popcorn hour last night that I heard everyones voice being quite deep as the wav was slowed down slightly... I need to find out how to tell mkv merge that it's 48000 sample rate, as i suspect it's putting it in lower.

I only showed the PCM solution as an alternative to vorbis audio because it should provide more constant bit rate and make it easier to manage the delays. If you are hearing variations in the PCM audio, you might want to try another version of mencoder, or vlc and confirm your source is not missing any packets.

I still think handbrake appears to be the best command line method right now. Don't hold your breathe waiting, since I seriously doubt that Syabas will have this working before there is a conversion solution using some of the standard tools.
