Graph Recorder is a nice addition, and it has completely cured me of 'MediaPortal wanderlust' -- but it is not super user-friendly. It requires using graphedit and fussing around with technical stuff. The ubu plugins were more designed to be used by non-technical people.

For me, I think the 'if you can show it in graphedit' limitation makes sense, and integrates well into the program, because then all the features of the program work.

A lot of video is embedded in apps and things, if a video requires bringing up internet explorer, and then moving the mouse pointer around with the remote, and clicking on links, that this is just going beyond what GBPVR is good at.

I was never able to spend enough time with ubustream, though I did get it basically working. The idea of linking to the .rss streams makes sense, though I never played with this. A lot of work went into ubustream, I suspect this plugin is high maintenance to keep functioning.

Maybe what might be least maintenance and most straightforwards is a plugin that adds 'mms:' urls as channels. Enter the mms: stream and the channel number from config.exe/Capture Sources/Edit.

For ease of use, maybe provide a helper function where you give it an http: link and it searches for any mms: streams and lists them. But, make the user responsible for finding the actual link to the video.

@cathrynm: did you pull any special maneuvers to install GraphRecorder into your GB-PVR? The vanilla install instructions don't let GraphRecorder show up in the config.exe/Plugin list.

graph recorder doesn't show up in plugins. It shows up as a capture source.

ah, yes. Well, that makes a bit more sense. I've got the stream configured to show up as a channel under live tv as well. One thing though:

*I recall it being said that that the GB-PVR Writer has to be the last node in the graphEdit file. However, my configuration (posted below) doesn't have that and yet still plays in Live TV. The one caveat is that the mms stream seems to redirect after playing a 10 second 'pre-show' ad, and the Live TV screen just exits after the 10 second ad is finished.

Any thoughts on how to solve this?

GBPVR Writer only needs to be last for recording and time shifting. For just watching, the preview line, that graphedit should be fine. I don't think this is your problem. You probably don't have the actual, real link to the content you want, and you need to do some more digging around to find it.

hmm....

I'm pretty sure I have the link down correctly. The only other thing I can think of is that the mms connection is redirecting to some other stream (on its own or w/e) and the Live TV detects that as a 'connection-broken' or ended, I guess. No flag in Live TV/GraphRecorder to maintain connection to the source regardless, I assume?
