CPU-Z is a very small program that can show you if the cpu is stepping down at all.

http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

If it is, this is very likely to be due overheating, which I guess can;t be entirely ruled out as you head towards mid-summer!

I had noticed that this started happening all the time since about when I installed MCE standby tool.
I went into the MCE standby tool and removed the choice to reboot every day.
The problem then dissappeared for a number of days but is now back.
I have looked at the motherboards energy saving program and set it to not reduce any power.
I'm lost for a solution - for now I'm leaving GBPVR watching TV overnight (I turn the monitor off) just to make the recording work.
Any ideas about anything I could try?

NB the problem isnt bad reception - video and/or audio frames are skipped regularly - see following excerpt from comskip log-

I don't know about telling it to reboot every day, or the added standby tool in general. I just have my MCE Windows set to go into standby mode after 30 or whatever minutes of inactivity using the built-in stuff, and GBPVR powers it up before recordings no problem.

Have you tried removing that extra standby tool completely?
I bet Michael Bay uses GBPVR because it's awesome:

Have you tried anything like HDtach to check disc throughput? http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/ind...est=HdTach

I used to have an onboard IDE controller that occasionally dropped into PIO mode and gave tiny dropouts.

For my underpowered system, running Comskip while both recording and watching was the final straw, and caused massive stuttering. I'm no longer using it, and for me, anyway, it never worked particularly well.

Where about in CPUz does it indicate this?

I seem to have the opposite problem - recordings only work when Im playing back something or watching live tv (I use comskip too).

Ive been through the pc and removed mce standby tool and all unused programs etc, am running just the latest SAF codecs but the problems still there.

I've not looked at the program for a while but the it should indidate the multiplier and FSB currently being used which you can then compare to stock settings. i.e. if it is stepping down, you should see the multiplier being lowered.

Bump

Summary so far - when no-one is watching live tv or a recording, all recordings have massive problems - see excerpt from comskip log below.
But when someone watches live tv or a recording while a new recoding is happening it records fine.

I have tried so many things with no change.
