@drbenjamin, I received the sample on Wednesday (thanks for that) and I would like you to try the attached file to see if it helps. I believe that mvpmcx2 was being too optimistic in how fast a large seek and buffering of 1080i h264 should take, and I have adjusted some timings. Let me know how it goes.

Note 40 minutes does jump into a comskip point as I suspected which compounds the problem if you still have problems with this patch try renaming the edl file.

Thanks so much for the patch, I will try it out and post back to the thread. I should mention that changing my STB to put out 720P was a great suggestion and made a world of difference. However, I am still eager for this patch because on 2 occasions I have found the STB reverted to 1080i. Don't know if it is caused by power cycling or updates pushed from FIOS, but it would be great if I had the ability to watch and comskip the occasional 1080i recording as well.

By the way, this patch works well for me on 1080i recordings.
I still get the problem where skipping back causes it to skip forwards a little.

If you are talking short skips that is to be expected, there is no way the PCH can do 30 second resolution, although it is often better.

If it is a longer skip, I'd need more info, logs, sample files etc.

I find not having the small skips a real pain at times, I suppose there is no way to have the big skips as we have now but instead of the small skips use something like the NMT's built in fast forward/fast rewind like function?

That should work in GBPVR, but sub has not implemented it in NPVR.

Of note the NMT does not have built in FF/RW that is in mvpmcx2 only and the skipping on mpeg-ts files particularly on bad files is not any better, but it is on par with other extenders. Most importantly no one every provides logs necessary to help me improve this from GBPVR or NPVR which is the "real pain" for me.

Umm err your edit lost me quite a bit??

1) the NMT has the 2x 4x 8x FF (or whatever it's called) with the built in software & it works really well (I thought it also did it backwards as well but when I just had a play now it wouldn't rewind?) this is what I was referring to but if mvpmcx2 has it as well.......

2) I thought you had already made it clear that small skips won't work for mvpmcx2 so why would I provide logs?

Now back to your original reply, do you think it could be worth pursuing this as an option, I would still want the big skips & the "#" then skip option, but then something like the 2x 4x 8x instead of the small skip?
I'm sure if it worked well & we twisted sub's arm a bit (or moaned & nagged a lot) he may just add it for NPVR sometime in the future when he has a bit of time?

It does both but I opted for 8x since sub didn't want to support speed options in GBPVR

Quote:2) I thought you had already made it clear that small skips won't work for mvpmcx2 so why would I provide logs?

What I meant about by logs, is I want to what people are really complaining about. I am hoping that people are minimum 1 minute forward and backwards that seems reasonable to me and I expect that mvpmcx2 easily handles Typically skips I have seen are within 5 seconds too and they are most often within a second or two. User don't remember when skips work only when they don't.

I'd prefer working on tightening up skipping.

Since my importance is LiveTV I could be going back to GBPVR anyway when new shows start this fall.

Damn. doesn't help me then as normal skips work OK most of the time, I just find it a big pain that when I go past the end of the adds & I have to do a big skip back & then wait while almost a minute of adds play I get "that stare" from the better half as well as have to watch nearly a minute of blasted adds Sad
