Alex, which? straight to ffdshow or Hoborg, or PBS's CCCp's Big Grin

ffdshow... FWIW, I'm not planning to convert .ts recordings to .mpg unless I get problems - keep your media stuff as close to the original as possible has been my rule for a long time - disk space is cheap.

Nice, I'll go along with you and Martin then, I am going to keep this close, with my native .ts's and do nothing for now!

And if it really doesn't work out, you could uninstall ffdhow and convert in batches - and then try some other decoders - simples...

Personally I actually don't recommend the original ffdshow, I meant ffdshow-tryouts

Thanks Martin, yup think I saw that on another thread between you and johnsonx42 or reddwarf?

Thing is should I be asking these questions or bumping them into NPVR wishlist?

i don't use *any* codec 'packs' as i find what works for me and stick with it...mostly ffdshow for everything...just recently had to change to cyberlink as i now have hdpvr so my .ts's are h264..[and i only get 0-7% cpu usage on h264 Tongue]
[which is one reason not to transcode if you record in h264] but hdpvr the only thing that does..h264 can't live inside .mpg..so has to be .ts
they will only get smaller if you lessen the bitrate, even keeping same bitrate will lower quality...
ffdshow is a good alternative if you can't get hw accell working..[it's half hw accel] but excellent on mpeg2..

you can try out .ts in pvrx2 for digital recordings...

but i agree, keep native format unless there are problems...transcoding introduces it's own issues.[interlacing, etc]
skips aren't as precise for me with .ts,but that may also just be the 264 ver.

Thank you all for input.

I was pre-judging errors that had never occurred. Keep to native .ts's no need to transcode. Space not an issue.

cheers all
