Could you set one MVP server restart the recording service and try again to see a connect. Turn off any MVP's if you have any too,

Set NPVR (settings) to start only one MVP server.

Started eGreat and attempted to conect to the mvpmc share

No BSOD, got the expected HTML 3-secs page --- but would not connect to NPVR

Logs for that time period attached

Thanks
TomH

BTW Re you comment on only being able to watch one PlayOn stram withoput rebooting it.... Just prior to the above, I started PlayOn, started eGreat, started the PlayOn share (nmt menu) and went to NetFlix.
Was able to start watching one (Instant Queue) move, stop it (eGreat remote stop button) start watching a second movie, stopped it started a third movie then stopped that. Then.... went to one of NetFlix free channels and could only get 'no content' results. WIll explore that further, later.

NextPVR seems to be looping talking back to the NMT, Are you sure you aren't having firewall related issues?

Yes navigating folders after playback is the problem I was talking about.

I turned OFF firewall protection for local network traffic- I can never be SURE what it's not.

In fact, your previous firewall diagnosis prompted me to turn off firewall protection for loal traffic a few days ago and I then (immediately) DID get NPVR to start up on the eGreat (even got PlayyOn runing through Universe). It was since then that the inability to get NPVR to start on the erGreat has resurfaced (though he firewall remains off for LAN/Trusted Zone traffic)

TomH

((back to the M34A/PlayOn results... I continued testing during our intermission... I can go into a non-subscription channel (e.g. Comedy Central), slect a TV series, watch one episode, watch another, and watch a third. Then can back out a level, select another TV series on that channel, and watch multiple episodes there as well. Can also go up two level to select another ' non-subscription channel' (i.e. TBS) and repeat. However, attempting then to go back into the NetFlix (subscription) produced a hung situation.))

Sorry, if it's not firewall, I can't imagine what the problem is. NextPVR needs TCP/UDP on the local LAN Perhaps you are misusing the idea of the range. What about trying

192.168.2.0 -- 192.168.2.255

Hey Martin,

I did the change the range from ......2.1 - .....2.12 to a range of .....2.0 -> .....2.255 range, but no joy.

Two things though,
1) how might that address the possibility that the firewal is blocking UDP on the local LAN (how is it a misuse of the idea of range?)

2) and importantly (to me) and to remind you that "before" my upgrade from NPVR 1.5.33 to 1.5.36 I did get NPVR working fine on the M34A (and that was with Universe/PlayOn working as well) - so does that tell you something/anything???

How do we diagnose that - does it make any sense to attempt to retrograde to 1.5.33 and retrograde the NMT stuff as well (if that's even possible) and try to recreate the previously 'working' environment???

If it was me I'd remove Zone Alarm completely. Life is too short. for this much work.

Martin, thanks for your kindness & persistance,

I just finished shutting off ZoneAlarm & then setting up Windows Firewall to allow the ...2.0 through ...2.255 range, anf the following programs explicitly: NextPVR & MediaMall Server (PlayOn)

Shazam!!!

NPVR (1.5.36) now starts up fine on the M34A
and Universe/Playon/Netflix+Free Channels: seems to be running brilliantly, TYVM!

There's a small remaining glitch... in that NPVR (on NMT) will not play any recorded progs (just hangs for maybe a minute or more then reverts to the recording listing) nor will it watch/play live tv.

Attached are the logs for the time period (not all of the MVP logs) in MVP.log.1 (where I'm attempting to watch "Rockford Files" recording) there's lots of stuff that I hope will give you some hints for me.

I do sincerely appreciate your help through these frustrating episodes, truly.

Thanks,

I think you could have a (drumroll please) firewall problem. You might need to allow NRecord.exe for TCP on the local LAN. If that doesn't work is your K: drive local? If it is a on share you have more to configure.
