It is because people write their scripts poorly (or copy scripts from XP) and place xml or temporary files in "Program File" or root. Oh wait, I already wrote that.

if it works only when you turn off UAC, then you've already screwed something up.

as to the OP's problem #1, why are you using that scheduled task? just use UpdateEPG.bat in the scripts folder.

for problem #2, reproduce the error and post logs.

This won't help your problem but I have 2 desktops and a laptop running W7 Ultimate X64 and NPVR with no problems. First thing I do when I install W7 is to turn off UAC. While not as much of a nuisance as Vista was, it's still a PITA.

That's pretty vague. If you focus on one specific thing that isnt working, and post the logs, then I'm happy to take a look.

As I said, there is no reason you should have to have UAC turned off.

It was a while ago so those logs are long gone, but the story was that on a fresh installation of W7 Ultimate x64 I was not allowed to install ANYTHING logged on as a regular user, when I tried to log on as Administrator the uninstall crashed. I removed every trace of npvr by hand and tried to install again, but it did not install the recording service. I then turned off UAC and ran the installation again and everything went smoot. I have not turned UAC on again, and it still runs pretty well.

The installer is marked as requiring administrator privileges, so the very first thing that will happen during install is Windows UAC will ask permission to install it as administrator. It wont attempt to install it as a regular user.

Thanks for all the feedback and it is now clear to me how it is intended to work. I'm sure the end/best solution for me is to start from scratch and I will do that when time permits.
As I currently don't have a work around for problem 2# I've attach logs for that.

Because LiveTV uses multiple rolling files you won't really be able to stream it using NEWA.
