Global warming models do predict more extreme local conditions, both warmer and colder.
I guess in a thousand years someone will be able to tell if the models are correct.
No such luck out in the Hutt (suburb of wellington - bit too close to sea level I think). Bit of frosting (hail) last night, but pretty much nothing settled that first night.
I have to admit I was very surprised at what we got & how it is still laying around even now even though it has now 80% melted, I wouldn't think the difference in height above sea level was all that great (if any real difference at all) between where we are on the flat in Carterton & Wellington & the distance "as the crow flies" apart isn't all that much either, but apart from the power cuts & feeding tropical parrots while it's snowing (which seemed really strange) it was some fun & a change that's for sure
there are some great pictures I saw yesterday on Facebook of the Lions at the zoo sitting outside with snow falling of them. They didn't look impressed.
I'm jealous...it's been over 100F degrees here for the last 2 weeks straight!
tho it has snowed here several times in last few years and it's was as common as Rome, maybe every 20 years..
