I can see in your logs that your skips aren't that accurate. I compared here on similar sized recordings, but couldnt replicate the problem.

For example, in your logs:
Quote:2011-09-03 18:37:14.001 [DEBUG][1] Current position is: 1807.44396972656
2011-09-03 18:37:14.001 [DEBUG][1] Asking for position: 1867.44396972656
2011-09-03 18:37:14.003 [DEBUG][1] Using timing.info, jumping to time 1867.443970 (offset 2479243044)
2011-09-03 18:37:14.235 [DEBUG][1] After skipping position reports as: 1756.61804199219

In my logs, my skips typically come out +/- 500ms or so.
Quote:2011-09-04 13:05:52.317 [DEBUG][1] Current position is: 2387.98510742188
2011-09-04 13:05:52.317 [DEBUG][1] Asking for position: 2447.98510742188
2011-09-04 13:05:52.318 [DEBUG][1] Using timing.info, jumping to time 2447.985107 (offset 1197684832)
2011-09-04 13:05:52.379 [DEBUG][1] After skipping position reports as: 2448.11010742188

Hopefully your timing.info will shed some light.

If you can reproduce it when skipping in a short recording of say 10 minutes, then we might look at getting you to upload that file, and the timing.info, so I can replicate the exact scenario here.

Ah, ok, I just saw the path and thought you were pointing me to the directory. I have it for you now (attached).

If that timing file doesn't help, I can generate a shorter recording and try it out. Just let me know. Thanks.

I'll take a look at that timing.info. It probably be worth seeing if you can reproduce it on a shorter 10 minute recording. Probably best to aim for the same channel as the previous example.

Also might be worth checking if seems to be have behave worse on recordings with a large file size on disk? (ie, whether it gets worse if the file is greater than 2GB or 4GB)

I've been looking at your logs, and the source code, and I cant see how it's possibly more than a half second or so out, but it definitely is.

I'm sure we can get to the bottom of it with a little work though.

I wonder if you're on to something with larger files as skipping for me is definitely worse on longer HD recordings. I find when watching an HD recording that's still in progress and has gone over the hour mark skipping is almost useless - it hangs long enough for me to have to stop and resume. But I dont think it's entirely consistent either and sometimes works. Doesn't seem to happen on shorter HD recordings though which makes uploading an example for you somewhat hard. Last night watching the X Factor while it was still recording on ITV1HD was a bad, it hung a lot when skipping but stopping/resuming helped. Would logs from then or timing info help?

I'm pretty sure that the timing.info file doesn't get written and used until after a recording is completed. So if you are trying to watch in-progress recordings, then the skipping isn't going to work as well since NPVR doesn't have that info yet.

May be that is the problem. I mean when timing.info doesn't get used (i.e. during live tv), the skipping seems to be more or less functional. It is during recorded programmes (at least in my case) skipping goes totally wrong.

Pure speculation I know. best leave it to sub to figure it out.

I generated an approximately 10 minute recording and the problem is still present. I've attached the logs to this post but I know they're not much good without the recording itself. Unfortunately, the recording is too large to upload to either Mediafire or Hotfile without a membership. It's 770 Mb. Can anyone suggest a free service for me to transfer this file?
