In case of Windows 8 there's another thing, which i am really interested in.

Windows 8 will appear at x86(-64) architectures and ARM architectures. Ok, fine. The same os. Both have metro (the oldschool desktop seems to be disabled at all on non desktop systems).
But how about software compability? Is the mighty "NextPVR x86" running only on Windows 8 x86? Or is it running on Windows 8 ARM too? How good will the os operate, how much can in emulate.

Bringing out an operating system, supporting two different pools of software and application could kill the os already at start, i think.
You like nPVR? Then please help pay the bills, and keep the project alive!

I'm downloading the consumer preview now that I will install on my Win7 client so I can see myself. The video demos have impressed me so I guess I must just like Metro, or hate the start button menu and desktop of icons.

Is there a full install file, or do you have to use the small installer and be online to install?
(I know some folk find the full installer better than I ever can).

Oh, and if using the ISO, you'll need this product key: NF32V-Q9P3W-7DR7Y-JGWRW-JFCK8 which is listed here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/faq

I have a technet account so I will likely get a few keys for W8 when it's out but I can't say I'll use it. I've tested Vista and W7 for Microsoft but wasn't asked to test 8 and if asked, I likely would have refused. I don't own a touch screen PC (do have an Ipad 2) and have no plans to buy one at this point.
That said, I've already downloaded the early beta (alpha?) and didn't like it but did download this weeks beta and haven't installed it yet. I think that even if this is a good product, it won't sell. First, they want too much money and second, people aren't willing to change when something works well and W7 works very well.

I installed this to try it out and also can't see myself using the Metro stuff unless in a "touch" scenario. Also, I made a new partition on a Windows 7 PC and the install went fine but when I rebooted back into Win 7 after trying out the preview, it ran checkdisk to fix "errors" so I'm hesitant to reboot into Win 8 to try it again...

After trying this version, I still stand by my earlier comments and just don't think Metro works in a desktop environment.

I haven't used this new version, but I did use the earlier developer preview.

I didnt mind the idea that both metro and desktop mode existed, but I wanted to be able to switch to desktop mode and pretty much stay there unless I needed to run a metro app, but that didnt seem possible. I really like the start button in Win7/Vista, but that appears to be gone now, and everytime I'd go for the equivalent I'd be sucked back into metro. Yuck...

Nope. They are trying to cram a tablet/phone OS into a desktop space. It doesn't work. Vista 2.0, in my opinion. I know myself and our university, as it stands now, will see what happens with 9.
