Agreed, Roy IS the winner. Many thanks for solving the mystery - no prize I'm afraid just the satisfaction of knowing there are now 2 slightly less confused people in the world.
Martin - yes, I must have done the same search as you. Thanks to all for the other suggestions. Cheers, Brian

Alex,
Yes, the company was obviously being a bit thrifty with its 'free' gift approach but here's an image which it looks identical to... http://www.homesupplies-b2b.com/b2b/pics...Lifter.jpg Ours didn't come in any packaging though (obviously, hence the confusion). Cheers, Brian

So the "free mystery gift" means "we'll reach into the trashbin and send you whatever we come up with". Nice.

Thanks Brian - but I get a 403 on the link...
Anyway, you could always buy another one to make the free one usable - although I bet they only sell them in pairs... Alex

ACTCMS Wrote:Anyway, you could always buy another one to make the free one usable - although I bet they only sell them in pairs...Well now that I know what it is I went back to their website and through all 18 pages of kitchen-ware and they don't sell them at all. As johnsonx42 said, the 'free' gift is probably any old thing they have lying around. I think it might be usable in it's own for small-ish chickens - if not it'll be donated to the local charity shop. stustunz Wrote:If you pull off the white plastic bits on the ends it is pointed,I would have got it if they were off.......haha........NotYou're right, the ends are sharp points - I hadn't even tried pulling the plastic ends off - I assumed they were part of its 'purpose'. If I'd seen they were pointed I might have had some idea it was something to do with meat. BTW, I tried Google Goggles with that original photo and it just showed a whole load of oak table tops. I tried with a snapshot on a neutral background but it still didn't come up with anything. Interesting app though. This is the image I linked to (and yes there are two in the pack)...
I totally missed out on this thread. Has to be the best mystery thread I have ever seen.
The pointy (Turkey plunger) bits were hidden by plastic/rubber caps (to protect the innocent). Reminds me of stuff I have seen from Victorian age etc on the Antiques Roadshow where you wonder what the function of a device may have been! Though very little there in ways of protective devices. No caps on the end of a very sharp object! The mystery, Brian, is of course why send one totally useless one when you may need 2.... I love this thread. Can there always be a mystery thread? cheers all steeb

Least I could do. I actually found them to be quite useless at their task with the 20 lb birds my wife likes to stuff into the oven. This actually reminded my more of the "Ask This Old House" bit where they try to guess the purpose of an unusual item. I just wish my prize was a BOC. Now who knows what that is?
What, me worry?
