I will try that but expect little success. I have a driver for Win7 but doubt that would work on XP. MyGica no longer shows this device nor seems to have a support page for it any longer. Cheers!

for future reference, you need to include the NDigitalHost.log as well, and it's usually helpful to include the older log.1, .2, .3 copies (or, when in doubt, just include the whole logs folder).

it looks like after the first time it locks a frequency, #8, the device stays locked on that channel and keeps providing the same data stream to NPVR; so NPVR just finds the same 5 channels over and over and over again on every frequency from 8 through 69. this likely confuses the hell out of the code, and produces all the .net errors you see at the end of the log.

first, update your tuner drivers to the latest if you haven't already.

assuming that doesn't help, an interesting test would be to make a copy of your ATSC tuning file (c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\NPVR\Tuning\ATSC\atsc.ini) and then change it so there are two channel 7's and no channel 8 (so as to skip channel 8 without having to renumber the entire file):
Code:
...
5=6,0,0
6=7,0,0
7=7,0,0
8=9,0,0
9=10,0,0
...
this will at least let you see if it will successfully find channels on the next frequency.

(argh, I spent so long pondering what to say that you and sub have pretty much finished the conversation while I was typing... I should point out that the test I proposed is interesting, but isn't likely to otherwise help solve the issue)

Thanks for the idea. I ran the test you suggested and it is interesting. NPVR now finds the channels on physical 9 and nothing else. I will start looking for different drivers. I really appreciate all the help you both have provided. Maybe I will get lucky yet!

@sub - Could be related to the XP problem which needs DvbFix to prevent problems when scanning for channels?

I wouldn't think so, but may be worth applying the fix to see if it helps.

Ignore that - I wasn't paying attention and see it's an ATSC setup.

I have checked and cannot find a newer driver for this. Basically, the vendor's support has disappeared. I have, however, re-run the installer for the drivers I have and told it to do a repair install. Amazingly, now NPVR seems to be scanning much more realistically and is finding all kinds of channels. Thanks to all of you! No doubt you will hear more newbie questions from me in the future. No good deed goes unpunished! Cheers

After success on this front, I can see that my next challenge will be to eliminate choppy rendering while watching LiveTV. SD looks ok but anything more hidef suffers horribly. At first I thought this due to the impact of Avast AV so I disabled its realtime scanning but without improvement. I am using the decoders from ArcSoft so maybe I need to start there. I will do some new searching of this forum. Thanks!

what renderer are you using? If it's EVR, that disables hardware acceleration (in XP only... in Vista/7 EVR is the best). Try VMR9 Custom or FSE.

if upgrading to Windows 7 is an option for you, you'll be much happier with the way video playback works.
