Oh Boo-Hoo people.

My old version without patches of any sort is still working perfectly, as far as the recording service just suddenly stopping for no reason. It has been running that way for a few weeks. I can now shut the pc off for most of the day, then switch it on and it does its EPG update and just simply records what its set to record.

I presume because my pc is junk and I have no idea what im doing in suggesting that the problem lies in the patches on the old version and carried over to the latest version.

Mine works fine (still the slow interface is annoying).

Maybe some deity came down and 'blessed' my pc?

Something is wrong with the second patch to the last version of NPVR. That bug has been carried over with each update.

It if worked as it should, I wouldnt have an issue with 99.999% of recordings failed would I?

Without the patches, NPVR NEVER fails at all.

Oh and BTW at Red.... dream on if you think an ip can give you a street address. Just sayin'.

Isnt my fault that yall dislike hearing that your software has bugs.

Dont you think it would be nice if the bug were to be corrected?

Maybe you should just change the system requirements and drop XP support?

I have been reporting the logs as requested and getting no results. I am not going to sit here sending logs back and forth that basically, bottom line said it failed to keep running, or failed to auto restart the service while im losing every single file that I go to record.

Post a description of the problem, and the logs, and I'll take a look. Without this info, I have no idea what you're talking about.

No, we're just going to drop support for jackasses.

Johnson,
I was being nice (for once) and sending logs following your suggestions each day I posted. Someone suddenly reappeared and started the whole 'troll' thing again. Sorry, but I dislike being called names, incuding 'troll'. So I fired back.

Then you decided to get all pissed off because of that.

Im not going to sit around while whining little children get emotional over me.

I have already, then got banned. The problem is on win XP, the previous version, which im using now, works nicely. I went and visited this site again and it was suggested to update to R1, then R2 (on the old version). At R2 the problems started. The only way I could record anything was to totally remove NPVR, reinstall. Then manually update the EPG watching to make sure it actually succeded. After that, do not by any means reboot. If I did all that, NPVR would record one show. Shut down and turn the pc on the next day... the rec service would freeze.

I know that you have another service running to detect that the rec service froze, then its supposed to terminate and restart it.

That is not what would happen in my case. It would simply freeze, partly thru the EPG update. It would not shut down, it would not restart via the software itself.

The only way I found to make it work was to completely uninstall, meaning delete the entire app data folder of NPVR as well as the normal uninstall, then reinstall and resetup.

I noticed the issue at the last version and patch 2 to it.

I continued to update as recommended hoping to correct it but the problem also continued.

Now that I have put the previous version back with no updates at all, it still is working perfectly. Dependable as a rock.

I could send logs now, but all they are going to say is 'success'. I could fully update too. But I already know if I do that, the problem will return.

I am not 'trolling' whatever TF that means.

There is a problem, as far as I know at the prior version at patch R2 and it continues all the way up to the current version.

The native interface is also slow as molasses. When I use NEWA, its very quick, as I expect. Also that strange thing where NEWA would crash when I would simply click 'manage recordings' vanished on the prior version of NPVR.

True an update to NEWA stopped that on the newer version of NPVR, but that isnt much help when the recording service simply freezes most of the time.

This is why im staying on the old version.

If it works, dont fix it.

It would be nice if the native interface were faster, also it would be nice if the 'back' button would show on the native interface without trying right click in the upper left of the gui to make it appear from nowhere. A purely accidental discovery on my part. All buttons should be there. All the time when they are usable.

I have learned here though, complaints about software are not acceptable.

I have noticed new posts concerning how the EPG simply stops for no reason and how the rec service does nothing at the programmed time.

Or is it that im hallucinating?

You guys know there is something wrong. How abt less name calling and more action to correct this software?

In one of my deleted posts I suggested that the problem was with the new EPG updating from the ATSC stream via ndigitalhost in 2.3.6 but if I recollect correctly you ignored that one and you also ignored johnsonx42's earlier suggestion to try using a 14 day EPG which would have worked around the bug. Complaining about the software is fine the way you did it was inflammatory and very much met the definition of what an Internet troll is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_%28Internet%29

In another of my deleted posts I apologized for calling your hardware a POS, I was reacting to your comments about performance of java, NextPVR etc. In truth is to hard to ignore the fact that you have a 10 year old machine with 512MB of memory, since I know NextPVR will use more than that amount of my machine today. Sub will work through the bugs but I don't know about the hardware limit.

For the slowness, what CPU are using in your PC, what video card, and what resolution is your desktop running at? Also, do you get a warning in the settings screen about directx not being available?

Did you unblock the R2 zip file? You need to unblock the R2 zip file. I think you should unblock the R2 zip file.

I have tried really hard to keep out of this but this really winds me up. I've been using this software on and off for quite a number of years now. I'm not a very active member of the forum but i do really appreciate the support i get on here. But, lets not forget, this software is FREE and the support is FREE. Therefore, you cannot and should not expect anything. You can ask and if people have the time they will help (and nearly always do). If they are asking for logs, just send them, they will often provide some pointers. I have posted questions in the past and had no response. That's just life. If you want fully supported software, go elsewhere and buy some (but it won't be as good as this).

I've had my say, now I'll shut up...
