Is there a dummies guide for configuring this stuff for NextPVR. I don't see AVC or VC-1 video on the decoders tab in the NextPVR settings dialog

This time yes. But I've had it happen within NextPVR also.

imilne Wrote:I still wonder if it's optical drive related...something stuffing up its buffering perhaps that causes a momentarily loss of data being fed into whatever app is doing the playback.
I've just watched "District 9" on the same BluRay drive connected to my gaming PC with no problems. I guess that means the drive hardware is OK. Not quite sure how to proceed - what could affect the buffering...?

One potential problem is the amount of free HDD space on the Windows drive on the HTPC. It's down to less than 1.5gb now.

None of the decoder settings in NPVR will affect Bluray playback. They will only be used for playing .ts files. Decoders used for Bluray will depend on your filter merits. The NPVR logs should tell you which decoders are used when you play a Bluray though.

RE HDD space: that could be an issue. I know low disc space on XP could cause all sorts of issues but I never tested/experienced what would happen on Windows Vista/7.

Edit: use the DS Filter tweaker tool for setting prefered decoders: http://codecguide.com/windows7_preferred...weaker.htm
