@toricred: your logs show that you've got a socket error on restarting NRecord, probably because the previous instance got stuck somehow. you'll need to reboot if you've not done so already.
do verify that your firewall is allowing NRecord.exe to communicate on the internet. that's the only difference between the automatic epg update and the manual one - one is called by NRecord.exe running as Local System, the other is called by NextPVR.exe running as a regular user.
