So far the only VLC demux stuff seems to be related to SageTV itself, which I am not using (7.023/MpegDMux.ax & DShowPlayer.dll?) Still looking. Should I take it up with babgvant & SageDCT?

It was added for SageTV because effectively development on it is dead. I suspect STV is somewhat based on older ffmpeg code like XBMC. I've dropped babgvant a note to see what he thinks.

Thanks. I would like to play live shows using NextPVR as well as the XBMC PVR with NextPVR as the backend. Any shows that I keep long term (movies) I will re-encode, so remuxing those is not a major problem.

Since NextPVR can play that file for me as a recording, sub would need to explain why live tv might give you problems. I know there is a long outstanding bug with NextPVR clients because Network Recorder doesn't create a Timing.Info but I don't think that is why you are having problems.

babgvant wrote back and said " Pbda & vlc are exclusive of one another, and there's nothing wrong w/ using vlc besides being a bit slower than native."

That might solve your issue with LiveTV too, if sub doesn't reply with other explanations.

After some very quick testing with livetv using different mpeg2 video decoders in NextPVR:
- The default Mpeg2 decoder (Disabled) fails.
- CyberLink Video Decoder plays the recorded test file ok, but dies pretty quickly on the livetv (but does much better than the default).
- The "Sage TV MPEG Video Decoder" does better, but locks up occasionally.
- The Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder is better, but sync and judder issues.
*** The Sage TV MPEG-2 Video Decoder seems pretty good.
- The CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD 10) locks up.
- The P2G Video Decoder locks up.
- The PP Video Decoder locks up.

Being a newbie I don't know, but it seems that the displayed time has some negative numbers in it ("-00:00:-01"). Is that normal?

Is the problem that I am having something that is caused by the InfiinTV driver? Should I be pestering them to resolve it properly so that we don't have to work around it?

I am sure Ceton will respond the same way that SiliconDust did, these are valid TS file and it is not their responsibility to do anything. Have you tried with VLC demuxing yet?

I attempted the VLC, but it did not seem to work. I probably did something wrong with configuration.

In SageDCT I checked: Use VLC for RTP capture
In VLC Path I entered: C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe
The hover help says "Use PBDA for capturing DCT recordings instead of raw TS. This option requires Windows 7 and AVIVO MPEG Muxer specific to your platform.
I installed AVIVO by installing 907_vista32-64_xcode.exe from babgvant.com.
I restarted npvr recorder and npvr, but then when I try to watch something, npvr hangs.

I replaced the MpegDeMux in my (unused) SageTV folder with the one I found on the forum, but that did not appear to help. I guess I should use one of the SageTV decoders. I tried both.

I am trying to figure out how to tell NextPVR about additional codecs. I'm playing with SAF 616 now.

Sigh. Sooo many threads to read and things to chase down. But it will pay off with a working system and a better understanding of this stuff in the end.

I don't know anything about how this works, sorry but I will echo again that pbda shouldn't required. You might need vlc allowed through any firewall you have on the local lan . I can look at your sagedct log again.

Attached are the new log files. I don't see anything interesting, but you have more experience. I started on channel 855. It appeared fine. Then I switched to 854, where it kind of worked but audio was out of sync. Then I switched back to 855 and it locked up.

Do you have any suggestions on what direction I should go at this point? Should I ask for help on other forums, perhaps?
