Yep, could be to do with this.

It's trying to use 10.154.30.18. Is that the ip address of your network adapter that is on the same subnet as the HDHR?

Man you guys are smart. Yes, if I disable my VPN it works. Thanks for the help

Weird that wmc still finds it, and NPVRs request is "received" by the HDHRP (at least the light came on). Also noteworthy, as I indicated in my first post I had set NPVR up previously with the Network Recorder plugin and SageDCT to interface with the prime. I had the VPN client running the entire time, and everything worked. Nothing else has changed to my knowledge, but the VPN client is blocking the feed this way.

The real reason for the re-install is an attempt to evaluate channel changing speeds in their "optimal" environment. I did some testing with everything setup "out of the box" (and my vpn off) and channel changes are very stable. By this, I mean that tuning into live tv and pressing either "+" or "-" would tune to the next channel without lock up (tried it about 10 times in a row within the NPVR application) It would still take around 10 seconds to fully switch channels Sad

For me just using play, stop, search, play would be fine, but unfortunately the Mrs. does not agree. She requires quick channel changing during live tv without exiting back to the guide, so it's looking as if my pipe dream of using XBMC with an NPVR backend is still on hold.

Thanks again for the help

have you tried the on-screen TV Guide? Press F1 during LiveTV, and you'll get the TV Guide over the video; pressing the Play button (ctrl-P) will tune to the selected program directly (rather than pressing Enter/OK which brings up a menu). Also, while watching live tv, if you press the up or down arrow, you'll get an on-screen mini-guide that shows what's on each channel; you then press Enter to tune to the chosen channel. No, you can't 'fast surf' channels like in the old days, but honestly it just isn't possible any more with digital mpeg streams - even a regular TV takes several seconds to change channels now.

(I should note that I'm referring to watching live tv in NextPVR.... I have no idea how XBMC does it or whether it introduces any additional delays)

Are you taking 10 seconds in NextPVR to change channels? In NextPVR with an HDHR Prime it was taking me approximately 3-4 seconds to change channels, which is pretty much the same as the cable set top boxes I tried. It can definitely take longer in XBMC.

Yes, within NPVR the channel change was taking around 10 seconds total. The audio stream would change within 3-4 seconds, but the video wouldn't sync up until about 10 seconds passed

I had not tried the on screen guide, I was just using the "+" and "-" keyboard shortcuts

I am not in a market that uses SDV either, so normal set top box channel changes are pretty snappy. I also use WMC (trying to get away from it) and using [page up] or [page down] will change channels, and it works very quickly (1-2 seconds at most)

I keep feeling like I'm doing something wrong for them to be this slow, hence my attempts to remove SageDCT from the environment. I've tried with the default ffdshow, LAV, and Microsoft DTV-DVD decoders

Also, is there a keyboard shortcut for settings?

Hmm, not really sure. Given you're getting audio after 3-4 seconds, then you should be getting audio about the same time.

There are programming techniques to make up/down tuning instant using 2 spare tuners. Now THAT would be a nifty feature that I don't believe any other PVRs have.

Something wrong on your side. 95% of the time my 2650 switches channels before I can count to 2, with audio and video in sync. The remaining 5% of the time 4sec max. I'm using it with a cablecard.

@Dark_Slayer: if you disable all audio decoders except for AC3, is the channel change quicker?

We've discussed this in the past. It's not worth it, and it would not be much quicker than what people already get. It'd tie up tuners, and not help at all when people type channel numbers, or use the mini-guide to change to channels not immediately adjacent. They'd still also have to wait until the next I-frame before it can display a picture, which could be a second and half or so.
