ATSC=over the air digital, from an antenna
QAM=digital tv from the cable company (unencrypted only)
HDHR=only use this if you have an HDHR Prime, the one with 3 tuners that can take a cablecard

If you have selected the correct type, and still get no channels, try changing the application to "Other ATSC/QAM" in the HDHR settings. Some users have reported that they get no scan results with it set to "NextPVR", though no one can figure out why.
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct
main client: NextPVR 5.0.7 Desktop Client; LG 50UH5500 WebOS 3.0 TV

Thanks for that explanation. I have tried NextPVR and Other ATSC/QAM without any luck still. I am just doing the default scan, do I need to change this at all? I have also tried running the programs as administrator and no luck there either.

Your cable provider seems to be using HRC frequencies. Before you hit the "Scan" button, change the dropdown from "Default Cable Frequencies" to "HRC Cable Frequencies". It also looks like all your channels are in the 71+ range except for one labeled as "Cox 122", so if you want to minimize scan time, you can select "HRC Cable Frequencies 70+" instead.

Alright that did find channels but they don't seem to be working. I got various unknown channels between 560,000 - 878,000. The actual channels are like 105-1 through 108-5. Any suggestions how to fix this?

What do you mean by "Don't seem to be working"? Are you able to view live TV?

If you are talking about the channel numbers "560,000-878,000", those are not channel numbers, they are tuning frequencies. Windows by default will tune channels to standard tuning frequencies but your provider uses HRC tuning frequencies. So NextPVR has to specifically tune your channels by frequency instead of channel numbers. You can go to Setup -> Channels and assign any channel number you want. You cannot use dotted (105.1) or dashed (105-1) numbers though. Dotted/dashed channel numbers are only used in the US/Canada and not the rest of the world where the majority of NextPVR users live. Typically, I will assign the channel numbers to match the numbers that would be shown on my cable provider'd DVR (if I had one) since they do not use dotted/dashed channel numbers either.

It finds the frequencies just fine but when I try to tune to them, it just sits on the black screen.

That is typically a decoder issue. Vista/Win7 will allow the Microsoft DTV/DVD Video Decoder to be used in third party apps but Win8 does not. You will need to install/specify decoders for MPEG2 Video, AC3 and possibly MPEG2 audio. Popular selections are LAV Filters, AC3 Filter (audio only) or hoborg's SAF decoder pack.

If you post logs after attempting to view a channel, someone can verify that it is a decoder issue.
