OK, as requested, tried it without the aerial splitter, but I still have problems with recording on a different Mux after wake as expected. Once the recordings had finished it also had a "can't communicate with the recording service" moment, which I've not had on previous experiments with this or previous versions - don't know if that'll shed any light on my core problem. I also couldn't watch live TV on Channel 4 (the same channel as the last recording) after the last recording, but once I got it to tune to ITV it would happily then tune back to C4.
This test was tune to ITV, then quit and sleep, leaving scheduled 2 min recordings for BBC1, then ITV1, then BBC1, then C4. I manually slept it again between each so I could do the test over a shorter period.
Two sets of logs attached - the first from after the recording, the second after fiddling around with the can't communicate and trying to watch C4.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit if that makes a difference btw.

Hopefully this sheds some light on my issue to someone - I'm getting the sinking feeling that I'll be down to going back to MediaPortal and trying this again in 6-12 months Sad
Fingers crossed anyway.

Maybe try setting <TuneTwiceOnDigitalChannels>true</TuneTwiceOnDigitalChannels> in the <Recording> section of config.xml.

nooooooooooooooo.

Many years ago (with gbpvr) I also had a bunch of problems with nova-t usb2 and wakeup, especially with the remote not working or doing double-presses on me. I bought a powered hub and had scripts to run devcon in wake.cmd, it was all a real hassle. I recall it was also very sensitive to signal strength when I used splitters. I moved on to a PCI Nova-t 500 dual tuner and it was way better (which reminds me, I never did get around to selling that card when I bought my Blackgold Freeview HD tuner).

But unfortunately none of this explains why the exact same scenario works with mediaportal but not npvr (assuming MP is not hogging the device when npvr is trying to access it).
It does suggest that there is a bug somewhere in npvr but you need Sub to take a look at this when he has a bit of time free.

I had a google around for "mediaportal nova-t usb2 resume" and saw this (post #9)

MP has an option to delay recognising cards and I have set this to the recommened 20 seconds. This means it does take slightly longer to get into live TV from standby but not too bad.

so maybe they built a workaround into MP for this issue with the tuner.

[edit] don't you just hate that when you spend 15min on a post and then Sub just goes and jumps in without so much as a by your leave...ignore me, just do what Sub said, everyone else does.....:-D

If it was needing something like this, you could try creating a scripts\wakeup.bat file, with a sleep command in it. It apply for recordings. Maybe not for live tv though.

It's going to be a day or two until I can try this, but I've a good feeling about this. It rings a vague bell about there being a similar setting in the old GBPVR. Of course, the fact that Sub suggested it also doesn't hurt Smile

I'll report back when I've given it a go.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi folks,

Sub - tried your suggestion and TuneTwice... definitely improved matters. I did a similar test to before* and most results were good, but still seemed to have trouble with Channel 4 for some reason. Again, it does record something, though about half to two thirds the size of the others and not really replayable.

Graham - previously you were worried about the quality it registers. Interestingly, when tuning live TV, it seems fine, at least after the initial tune. If you look at the live tuning of channel 4, after switching from ITV it happily shows a 100 quality, though strangely 10 on the tune after wake.

Any more inspiration appreciated. It seems to be missing something that stabilises the tuning before it starts recording...

Cheers,
Ed

* - perhaps slightly less scientifically - it's possible a couple of recordings didn't fully sleep between, but there was enough to show the effect and some improvement

I think if it was me doing these tests, now that things are working a bit better, I would try a proper test with recordings of a decent length (about 10 minutes should work I would think) & allowing it to go into sleep naturally after the recording (not force it) as I have seen force into sleep tests in the past that have given totally different results than going into sleep naturally tests.

Jaggy - I don't always have time, plus it's my only recording ability so potentially prevents me from recording other things if I set up a test, but fair enough.
With that in mind, I scheduled 9 recordings today, each of 12 minutes long, then tuned live tv to ITV1, watched for a few seconds, quit NextPVR, and slept the box:

BBC1 1130-1142 (312MB)
*ITV1 1230-1242 (222MB)
BBC2 1330-1342 (394MB)
*Channel4 1430-1442 (186MB)
BBC1 1530-1542 (403MB)
Channel4 1630-1642 (299MB)
BBC2 1730-1742 (393MB)
*E4 1830-1842 (139MB)
*PickTV 1957-2103 (586MB)

Once again, the *s are unplayable recordings. I took a copy of logs whilst it was awake part way through, in case it provided more info over the period, so two sets attached.

Any insights gratefully received.

Thanks,
Ed
