You can emulate the best case currently by switching from one DVB channel to another on the same frequency. In this case the device doesn't need to retune (saving 0.25 second or so on most tuners, some are slower), and it passes previously buffered data to the playback engine, but it still takes some time before windows will start giving your audio and video. This is about the best you could hope to get out of a multi-tuner scheme, but in reality it's likely to be slower with some overheads of switching between the tuners.

No worries. I wasn't trying to sound argumentative over it, but it is a request that has come up in the past, and I've spent time experimenting with it.

This video http://youtu.be/fPoNiZEjgVg shows how most of the channel change time is not the NextPVR file caching. I have some channels on my XBMC client to NextPVR tuning directly from the HDHR via HTTP so the delay you see is the freeze while buffering and then a blank screen when the mux is initialized.

There was a time that some PVR programs like VDR would remux capture streams into one continuous elementary mpeg stream to avoid some of this delay but channels difference are much different now and many people want to pause and seek in live tv

I knew that XBMC played its part and setting video-buffer (maybe live-tv buffer, i forget) to zero in the advancedconfig.xml does wonders. I still think that stuff could be done smarter, like using another tuner in a window to preview the channel you are changing to. I quite often change channels ending up in the middle of a commercial and having to change back to the previous channel because i hate commercials.

Oh, and btw. you probably all know already, but these builds https://www.scintilla.utwente.nl/~marcel...build.html tend to speed up channel changes quite a bit on Windows clients.

Yep, you absolutely need those margro builds if you're using XBMC clients. Without them XBMC is painfully show change channels.

With margro's builds my XBMC channel changes are almost as quick as in NextPVR itself. With out them, it easily adds 5 seconds per channel change.
