post the link of the one you installed
I think you have 2 issues going on
the direct x one is just how the video is displayed(software/hardware)

the error you are getting would seem like something else is missing on your machine

did you read the link i posted above #4

Haven't tried to see if I have that "missing" file from your post #4. Will look now.

It's not missing. File is there, same date and time stamp as that contained in your reference zip file.

SlimDX.dll = 26th Jan 2012

The server is headless and only has a bog standard VGA card. I'm using an RDP session onto the server to access NPVR.

that is the version that used cause the directx error but i think its more to do with the fact you dont have a proper video card install and if your not watching video on actual machine you can ignore the directx error
you might be better off setting up second machine in client mode
Im not sure rdp will really work for watching video (setting up recordings etc would be fine)

I can play a .ts file recorded from the tuners own PCTV Centre software using VLC media player via an RDP session.

I can try using my laptop as a client. <cough> If someone could point me at the instructions for doing this </cough> ;-)

just reading your other posts from the other day (trying to get picture im head of what you are actually doing)
Q1 If you set up a recording does it grow into a file?

Q2 if it does can you play that file back on your tv through dlna (you mentioned in other post)?

Q3 can the recording be played back in something like vlc (plays pretty much anything) ?

The server is headless and only has a bog standard VGA card. I'm using an RDP session onto the server to access NPVR.

But are you trying to use that headless server for recording only or for playback? You can play on the client without the server being able to play video. You need a reasonable video card for playback. There is a command line switch -no3d that might help via RDP.
