(still ignoring the client machine)
If you press pause, wait a few seconds, then press play, does playback improve at all?

Ignoring live tv entirely, if you do a recording, and play it back when complete, does it play smoothly?

I paused for about 10 seconds and then pushed play. The same thing happens (stutters and blocking). I then recorded about 2 minutes and when I watched the recording, it also showed stutters and blocking in the recording itself.

I can verify that recordings have always worked perfectly with 3.2.9.

Maybe try creating a c:\temp directory, and setting HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NPVR\LogFileWriter=1 (DWORD) in the registry, then reproduce the problem, and post the c:\temp\file-writer.txt file.

One 64bit versions of Windows, that'll be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node\NPVR\LogFileWriter=1

sub, I assume when you say "reproduce the problem", you mean simply watch LiveTV for a few seconds.

C:\temp generated 2 files:

More logging...

Post those file-writer logs again with this patch installed.

With this patch, you could also try setting DumpFileWriter=1 (DWORD) in the same registry key, which will create a c:\temp\dump.ts containing the unmodified data that was delivered by the device.

Exact same problem here. Tried the patch (just on the chance). Didn't work for me. WinTV plays fine. ArcSoft Capture fine. Problems with live tv and recordings exist regardless of the decoder used. Something in the actual capture process. I'm off to a hockey game but will try to collect logs and post them later tonight.

Cheers

What capture device are you using?

The patch wasn't supposed to fix anything. It just added additional logging.

Good news (there is something to work with) and Bad news (I can't explain it)

sub, I did as you instructed with the patch and the reg entry. C:\temp now generates 3 files. The dump.ts file was too large to upload so I put it in dropbox here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ua2vmacl1da22fm/dump.ts?dl=0

I viewed dump.ts and it looks perfect. So I decided to record a quick segment on my own. Even though dump.ts works great, the recording I made still shows the problems.

The other 2 files are attached.
