Why would it need to use the tuner for recording? I haven't tried to record anything yet. Actually, I thought it would be able to record at the same time as I was watching something so I learned something new.

That's why I suggesting turning off DVB EPG updates during live tv I didn't see any recording attempts but I saw the DVB updates.

Yes, if the problem occurred around 9pm while you were watching live TV BBC1 then the scheduled EPG update kicked off.

You can watch and record with a single tuner as long as the channel(s) are on the same MUX or transponder. The snag with an EPG update is that is needs all channels.

If I'd realised I'd set the EPG update for 9pm, I might have figured out what was wrong, but I was sure I'd set it for 8pm. I did it wrong again, dad.
Thanks again. I'm sure I'll get it all figured out eventually.

I set mine to 5:00am(dont think ive ever recorded at that time) and also have the pc reboot at 6:00am or maybe the other way around this seems to works nicely to keep tuners in sync and everything happy

UK: On my main machine I gave up with over the air epg updates and moved onto xmltv when Atlas made their data available.
There's a precompiled Windows exe xmltv at http://alpha-exe.xmltv.org and some Atlas info at http://atlas.metabroadcast.com/ you need an API key to get the data and initial configuration, but an online request gets one back fairly quick. It's been 100% reliable since I started using it.

Atlas looks interesting! I will have a play with the software and see if it offers me any advantages. However I stopped using the NextPVR DVB method of downloading the broadcast EPG data over two years ago. I use EPGcollector to download the broadcast EPG data into an XML file and has never suffered from large parts of the EPG missing which I previously occasionally had. For me the vast majority of the time the amount of info supplied in the broadcast EPG is enough for my needs.

I am now committed to using the broadcast EPG via EPGcollector as it populates the "Unique_ID" field in the database using the data PVRs use to avoid duplicate recordings. I have 1300 recently deleted recordings plus just over 1000 existing recordings most of which have a "unique_id" which NextPVR uses to avoid duplicate recordings. So I don't want to start over again!
