There is no icon, Martin. And, if I go to Program Files and click on the NPVR application, I get the little circle for a few seconds and that's it. No program.
Tried that. First box said it couldn't install because of stack overflow so I closed it. Install went on, got a second black box that said it was starting nrecord service. I let it close and installation finished. Still no icon in the task box.

What is the size of C:\users\public\npvr\config.xml If it zero bytes do you have a file config.xml.old
That was going to be my next suggestion along with running "sc delete NPVR Recording Service" from an administrative command prompt. (then retry the installation).
The config.xml file is 15 KB. Running the command prompt got the response: The specified service does not exist as an installed service. Checked Task Manager to make sure nothing was running and tried the reinstall. Save results, no NPVR,
Out of sheer frustration I deleted NPVR in Control Panel and deleted the NPVR folders in Program Files and Users/Public. Rebooted and then tried installing again. Got the same stack overflow window and I never got an icon in the Task Bar. However, when I clicked on the NPVR tab in the Start Folder, the program came on screen. Filled in the appropriate fields and everything appears to be working. I still have no icon on the task bar but I can work around that. Does what's happening make sense to anyone?
I had a similar problem until I Installed Microsoft Visual c++ 2008 runtimes, hopefully this is the installation problem. I should have read the software requirements.
I tried to install and a fresh Win10 VM client today and this is the error I got. I clicked continue on the error and it seemed to be ok and the service did start at the end. Subsequent install work so one of the installed pieces must be required in during that first run. I tried deleting thing to test and I think the datadirectory is required or that error occurs.

You should be able to get the icon in the taskbar by starting NTray.exe manually.
