jcjefferies Wrote:I am not 100% sure this is what you mean but in Kodi under Videos I created a link to smb://192.168.0.146/d/ and also replacing IP address with server name and I am able to play files on the D: drive of the server after I had entered a server user name and password.

I was wondering if the user name and password were the problem but I have always had a working link to D: so I can play some files as a video in Kodi. I deleted the original and recreated it to check.

I don't often play In Progress Recordings so don't know when it stopped working but I did change from Vista to Windows 8 about two months ago.

Chris

They are only a problem if you don't include them in the path substitution.

Code:
smb://username:password@192.168.0.146/d/

You probably didn't create a guest share when you moved from Vista.

Remember that private info will be part of your kodi.log

Thanks Martin but I don't think its a permissions problem as adding the user and password did not help.

On the Kodi client I removed all SMB connections to the server in the File Manager and under Video Files. After rebooting both the server and client I was able to make a SMB connection in either File Manager or Video Files without a password and then play recordings on the server D: drive.

Enclosed is KODI.log. The actual play starts at 11:11:25.

I have removed a lot of blocks of old material from the logs which seem to date back to September and gets added to the new logs. I cannot remember if this is normal or if I need to SSH in to delete this material possibly when it ran on a different computer.

Chris, what about the example playing from the video library? Also does path substitution using D:/ as the source help?

Enclosed are two KODI logs.

1) Playing a recording from SMB link to server D: drive under KODI Video > Files. Seems to use SMB connection ok.

2) KODI2.log - Playing existing recording in X-NEWA with substitution D:/. Also tried D: but neither seems to make any difference and still uses http.

Could you try your path subsitution as NPVR-SERVER instead of the IP and play the same file Agatha Christies 13 at Dinner_20111217_16051755.ts

Enclosed is KODI log with substitution using server name instead of IP address.

The log seems very different with no mention of the file being accessed via http but also only one mention of SMB:-

DEBUG: CSMBFile::Open - opened D/Agatha Christies 13 at Dinner/Agatha Christies 13 at Dinner_20111217_16051755.ts, fd=10000

As things looked very promising I started a recording and started playing the file a minute later and it played much more than the minute it would have previously played.

Thanks Martin that seems to have cured the problem! It seems an odd solution as usually using the IP address tends to reduce problems.
