is your antenna connected to the right F-connector on the card? the top one is for TV, the bottom is for FM radio.

martint123 Wrote:The "top" would be the edge furthest from the PCI connectors edge. (the PCI connector normally would be at what is considered the "bottom" even in tower case - which I consider to be "on it's side")

It was the wrong connector! God, that was a stupid mistake. But I could almost swear that the diagram that Hauppauge provided told me to connect it to the other one. Anyways, it's scanning the channels perfectly fine now. I'll update you guys on what happens next. Thanks again!

mikeh49 Wrote:EPG = Electronic Program Guide = a guide to "what's on TV" for the channels your tuner receives. NPVR is EPG-centric in that it is designed to have an EPG that you use to decide which programs to record and watch later. Live TV is an ancillary service; you can also use the guide to decide what to watch. You need to get the guide data from an external source such as Schedules Direct (SD). SD is not free, but they have a free trial to get you started. This is the best, most reliable source of guide data for the US. There are other less reliable sources, you can look at mc2xml. SD is directly supported by NPVR; mc2xml requires extra steps.

I suppose you could use NPVR without a guide, but it might be pretty lame. It's really really designed to be used with a guide.

Ok. What would you recommend to use as an EPG and how would I set it up?

I am new to NPVR too. I have signed up for Schedules Direct and it works really easily and well. As stated it is not free, but it seems to be worth the price - at least to me.

Schedules Direct

Try this:

http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...n.XMLTVEPG

It is not a step-by-step, so you'll have to do some thinking. First, go to Schedules Direct (Google, right?) and set up an account and select your provider, etc. It needs to know where you live and how you get the TV. Then go back to NPVR, pick the first channel and work through the configuration to select SD as the guide source, enter your log-in info and save. Then update the EPG using the button on the channel setup pop-up and check the TV Guide to see what you have. If it's OK, I think you can use bulk map to have NPVR try to match up the rest of the channels.

Sorry for being vague, just try to work through it.

Thanks for the info, I'll try it out when I get there. Unfortunately, I've reached a roadblock before that. Not sure how to get Live TV to work. I get a black screen and none of the decoders included in the 'Decoders' menu of nPVR settings fix it. Anyone have any decoder recommendations?

Have you specified a directory that actually exists in the Live TV buffer in Settings? Not sure which tab, look around.

You should have decoders from the Hauppauge card installation. What are your choices? You need MPEG2 video and AC3 audio for US TV. Others can be ignored for now. Do you have a Hauppauge Live TV or whatever app installed?

be aware that the wiki instructions for schedules direct no longer apply to current versions of NextPVR. You only need to setup an account, don't bother setting up a lineup at the website, it won't be used in NextPVR. NextPVR manages the lineups directly.

When you first select Schedules Direct for one of your channels, you'll need to hit the dropdown for "Lineup:" and select "Manage Lineups". There you will enter your SD login info, and add lineups to your lineup list based on your zipcode. Once you've added the lineup(s) you need, you close the Schedules Direct Lineups window and then you will be able to map your first channel. After that NextPVR will ask if you want it to try auto-mapping the rest of your channels; let it try, I think it will do a pretty good job these days.

Thanks, Johnson. I was pretty sure the lineups weren't needed anymore. I'll see if I can find some time to fix the wiki, it seems we need it lately.

@Carygolfer - start a new thread with IPTV in the title so someone who might know about IPTV sees it and can perhaps help. I don't think Schedules Direct has any iptv lineups. Smile
