Question or two regarding switching from xmltv to Schedule Direct re/NPVR ---

1. is updateEPG.bat still used by NPVR?
2. if so, are there edits required and if so, what kind?
3. are there any required changes to settings for automatic updates?

Thanks

(1) Yes - it is called but not required and non-existent on installation
(2) Depends on the EPG source you use.
(3) In Settings, Misc2 there is an enable and time setting for EPG updates.

There is specific internal support for Schedules Direct in NPVR and the wiki has info on setup (I'm not a SD user)

Thanks martin, although I had read the wiki before asking the question(s).

I have signed up for an SD trial and have gone through the setup in NPVR, but it seems that BULK mapping isn't working. Is there a trick to get it to bulk map?

Update: I was able to get bulk mapping to work by emptying the DB first. Is there a way to bulk map without emptying the DB?

I don't know if this belongs in a separate thread or not but I had a really weird problem switching from mc2xml's xmltv.xml file to Schedules Direct.

NextPVR 3.3.8 wouldn't give me a lineup, just a blank dropdown. I upgraded to 3.4.8 and Schedules Direct worked great. I imported the channels from SD and remapped the channels for my HDHOMERUN boxes w/o issue.

However, when I deleted the old XMLTV channels and imported the SD schedules for the HDPVR (ver 1) channels on my (comcast) cable box, I was getting 0 byte length recordings on all of the HDPVR (cable box) channels. I finally had to restore from a backup, then upgrade NextPVR (to 3.4.8) again, then manually (bulk) map each of the cable box channels from XMLTV to Schedules Direct's cable listing without deleting the old channels or importing the channels directly from SD.

I can't figure what the connection would be between the EPG source and the 0 byte length recordings. (?) Anyway, it all seems to be working fine now . . .

It looks more and more like Microsoft has ended the legacy guide service for XP MCE and Vista that mc2xml (free version) relied on, although I have seen no official statement from Microsoft or Rovi to that effect (if anyone has, please post). Obviously Schedules Direct is the recommended alternative for NextPVR. For the relatively few running Vista Home Premium or Ultimate, it appears that installing the long-forgotten TV Pack allows you to download the same Rovi data for WMC as those running Windows 7 and 8 - which is not to say this cutover has been painless for them. [Edit] Oh yes, Americans running Vista might be interested to know that TV Pack also adds support for Clear QAM and subchannels. Unfortunately it does not add the H.264 support that overseas users might wish for.
