Jim... Maybe this will help you :
http://my.hdhomerun.com/instructions/sof...extpvr.php

I did this and had no problems setting it up. You just want to install and configure the HD homerun software. You don't actually run it at any time. You just need to configure it in order to set up your tuners in nextpvr.

I'm pretty sure that you don't need to/can't do steps 2-10 in these instructions (the HDHomeRun Setup parts). The more recent versions of the HDHomeRun software ignore/don't display any DCR-2650 devices so if that's all you have, it shouldn't list any devices.

There is just one version of the HDHomeRun software which supports all of the variations of the hardware.

You're right Brett. Having just done this install myself only a week ago, I remember not having the HD homerun software installed and it not working. I installed it, and nextpvr had no problems seeing and connecting to both tuners on it. As far as the wintv is concerned, I had my 2650 recording and playing back through windows media center and had no problems. While installing nextpvr, I didn't touch the wintv software at all. Maybe get things working in media center and then try installing HD homerun and then nextpvr?

BrettB Wrote:Yes, their software (with or without their hardware) is required for NextPVR to be able to access and control the Hauppauge DCR-2650! Note: You don't actually run any of their programs. And, as you found, most of their software won't allow access to/list the DCR-2650 devices. But there is one particular program in the software which NextPVR uses and is required.

Thanks, Brett. Well ... I did all that (re-installed HDHomeRun) and the Settings>Devices> now show both my Hauppauge tuners as 'Yes' under the 'Present' column ... yet it still cannot access them. I've gone thru all the available Decoders, so I'm still stumped. It knows the names of the channels but cannot tune any of them in. Whoa !!!! I just turned on HDHomeRun and it's not only showing the video (which it usually did) but now it has the audio also. I must have unknowingly set the Audio Decoder right in the NextPVR. My WMC happens to be recording three shows at the time. (I tested NextPVR again just now, but it's still not cooperating ... cannot tune in anything. There's still a 4th channel available on the tuners that's not being used now that I turned off the HDHomeRun). Is NextPVR dependent upon something to get the TV schedule in order to tune in?

I have all the gizmos installed (WinTV8, HDHomeRun, NextPVR, Kodi) and everything setup as told.
WMC and HDHomeRun can connect to my two tuners (Hauppauge DCR-2650 w/CableCard).
WinTV 8, NextPVR, and Kodi cannot. I don't understand why I'm having this problem but nobody else seems to.
I've spent weeks trying to resolve this. What am I doing wrong? HELP! Thanks.

If you go to the Settings->Devices screen, then post the npvr.log, I'll check why it's not seeing it.

OK ... I exited & got back into it ... to start a fresh log.

As you asked, I went to Settings->Devices and saw that it apparently started a new log just from that. (good)
(Now, currently all 4 of my tuners show up as 'Yes' in both columns.)

I then also attempted the Live TV to hopefully add more to the log.
It always comes back saying that it is Unable to communicate with recording device.

I'm not familiar with this forum ... so I hope I setup this attachment (below) correctly.
(And I hope it supplies the log info you were looking for.)

Is this possibly what you were looking for?
Unexpected socket exception calling StartStream(): System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (0x80004005): No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:8968
I also get this error when I try to Start NPVR Service from the Start Menu:

Thanks!

That's unrelated to your DCR-2650 not being found, but you definitely need to get that resolved. If you reboot, does your 'NPVR Recording Service' start?

What output do you get if you run the following?

"C:\Program Files\Silicondust\HDHomeRun\hdhomerun_config.exe" discover

I've rebooted multiple times over the past weeks, but I always get the same response whenever I try the Start NVPR Service option on the Start Menu (under "NVPR").
It sounds, however, like you're asking about something that happens in the background automatically.
If so, how do I check?

hdhomerun device 2010218D found at 192.168.141.241

(Note: I always install applications on my G: (General) drive. I try to keep C: drive as Windows only. Everything else (Temp Internet Files, Paging, Documents, Email, TV Recordings, etc.) each have their own unique drive.

If you run services.msc, the Windows 'Services' control panel, is the NPVR Recording Service listed as running? If not, does it start if you try?

Also, is there a c:\users\public\npvr\logs\nrecord.log? It might contain clues why it's not starting.
