I have no clue. The NextPVR recording service should create a process that runs when doing a recording and watching live tv. This is the process that captures data from the tuner. This process should create a log called ndigitalhost20.log (or 21 or some number) in the Logs folder.

In Settings --> Recording, there should be a tick in Use out-of-process digital recording to cause the ndigitalhost process to be used.

Have you had the tuner working with other software such as software that came with the PC or with the tuner? It may be that the TV signal is weak and the tuner can't lock a frequency. Have you tried with all splitters removed from the aerial cable?

Hello Again Guys,

I have attached the NDigitalHost log file within the zipped log folder named “Fourth”. I can confirm there is a tick for “Use out-of-process digital recording.”
There is a back story which I now think may be significant.
The computer, which is new, came with AverMedia software which worked fine. I was able to scan without problems and the picture quality was excellent. Unfortunately the rest of the software was terrible. It was nigh on impossible to read the epg and recordings were not named with sensible file names. There were other problems that made it hard to enjoy. I could find no online support for this software.
I have used MediaPortal on my old computer so tried to install that. I got all sorts of error messages and it would appear the software could not start the TVServices I also found that sometimes it could not find or connect with the TV tuner. I uninstalled thoroughly and tried the later version, MediaPortal2. After a lot of faffing about, I got it to work. Thinking my problems were solved, I uninstalled the AveraMedia software and then the MediaPortal2 refused to work!
I came to the conclusion that I must have removed some file (during the uninstallation) which MediaPortal needed.
I found nothing to help me on the MediaPortal forum. All discussions there seemed to assume detailed technical knowledge. I posted a question but didn't get a response.
I next uninstalled MediaPortal2 and did a thorough clean up. I found the TVService which MP uses was still present and it was stuck in “starting” mode. This I removed.
As far as I can tell, my machine is clean of MP and MP2. I used Auslogic Boost speed and Advanced Uninstaller PRO 11 to clean up left over files and registry entries.
That's when I decided to give NPVR a try.
I have no technical ability but I suspect there may be a missing file or whatever which NPVR requires, which I have deleted while uninstalling the AverMedia software.
Does that sound plausible? I don't fancy wiping my machine and returning it to “factory” condition in the hope of restoring missing stuff.
It would seem to me that NPVR is not at fault but rather the “environment” in which it finds itself.
Sorry that this sounds terribly vague.

That npvr.log doesn't show an attempted scan. You'd need to zip the logs immediately after a scan, so the logs cover the time the problem occurred.

OK, this is what I've done today.
1 Complete un-install of NPVR
2 Manual removal of NPVR files from C/ users/public. For some reason these are not removed by the uninsall process.
3 Install from NPVRSetup_3_5_7
4 Run and attempt to set up device. Scan for signal. This is when it stops responding and I would normally have to do a computer restart.
5 Before restarting, copy log folder and zip it. (There will presumably not be an ndigitalhost log because I never got to test "live TV"
6 Attach zipped log folder.

I hope I've got it right this time. Before, I was copying the log after restarting the computer.

Thanks to all you folks for exercising your little grey cells. This is very much appreciated.

The logs looks to me as if NextPVR stops in its tracks when it tries to talk to the tuner. Do you have the latest drivers for the tuner installed?

Ah! So you have found the point when it hits the buffers.
When my computer was running Windows 8, I looked in Device Manager and was told that no drivers were present/needed for the TV tuner. This struck me as odd. I clicked the “Update Driver” button and was told there was no better driver available.
After my free update to Windows 10, I discovered that Device Manager showed there was a driver for the TV tuner. It is AVerMedia H334 MiniCard Hybrid DVB-T Driver date 18/12/2013 Version 10.2.64.103. Again I tried updating but was told this was the latest. To double check I ran a utility from Driveridentifier.com which identified several drivers as being out of date. The driver for the TV tuner however, was marked as good and no better driver is available.
Do you think it is safe to assume the driver is not to blame?

Can you try replacing your NShared.dll with this one, and see if it gives us any more useful information in your npvr.log when you scan fails?

I replaced NShared.dll with the new one provided.
Here are the log files created immediately after a scan fail.

Did the logs reveal anything significant?
