I have a new installation of NPVR, and am getting the same thing.
I was converting from WMCServer in Kodi, wanted to see how well NPVR would work.
Installed NPVR, set up the device (3 tuner Silicon dust HDHR), set up channels via Schedules Direct.

I get the guide, I select a channel, the HDHR LEDs show a tuner in use, then the LED goes out. After a few mins, I get the same msg as the OP.

I haven't even tried to set it up in Kodi yet.

Your problem is happening because you have a very long unexpected delay when adding a video decoder to play the live stream. By that time, the recording service says "I haven't hear from that user that requested the device for a long time, they must have died, I'll free up the tuner".

So...something screwy with the decoders on your machine which is causing a long delay.

There is a slight possibility it's related to your choice of audio renderer. You've got it set to 'DirectSound: VL370M (Intel® Display Audio)'. Try setting it back to the default.

You may also need to configure ffdshow to display mpeg2video?

I have seen that message also in the past. Maybe a couple of times. Can't remember just what I was doing at the time, but it sure made me think WT? Did something and it was gone and all was OK. Didn't "kill" the program or the computer. ???

Ok, changed that back to default, now I get "please wait" then a blank screen.
I've cycled through all of the video rendering options, and have been working through the renderer/decoder combinations, but nothing is coming up.

Win7, Intel integrated HDMI video.
WMC works, WMCServer w/ Kodi 15.2 works, HDHR addon for Kodi works.

Just can't get this to work.
Wanting to change over as there's no WMC in Win10, and the options are limited with the HDHR.

Post the logs, and I'll take a look.

You shouldn't need to change the video renderer. Your audio renderer should be on default.

The problem before was a long delay loading a decoder. That's not necessarily to do with the decoder you've got selected. It might be something like a broken decoder that is on your machine, majorly slowing the process of loading any decoder. Windows should take a few milliseconds to deliver a decoder when I ask for it. In your previous log it took like 3 minutes. The rest of system had given up waiting for you by then.

I've been seeing this recently too. I think it first started when I upgraded to Windows 10, but I'm not certain about that.

It only happens (for me) though, in the first five minutes or so after waking the machine up each day, so I'm guessing it may be to do with concurrent checks for Windows updates or something like that?

The symptom is that I'll wake the machine up, start nPVR, and start viewing a programme. The programme then plays fine for maybe 15-30 seconds, and then I'll get the message
The tuner you were watching was required for a recording. Would you like to
switch to watching a recording, or exit back to the menu?
Exiting back to the menu and restarting the programme then works, for another 15-30 seconds, and then the problem happens again.

After about five minutes, though, the problem stops happening, and I then don't see it again for the rest of the day.

I've just updated to 3.5.7 this morning, and if the problem happens again, I'll report back with some logs.

I have it down to switching between 3 live TV channels then get "the tuner You were using message." Here are the logs. Really enjoy NextPVR but this issue is a show stopper. Same issue on Windows 10 on a different machine. currently on 8.1 with Media Center, Win TV 8, and testing Jrivers with no issues.

I must be missing something.

I'm out of town for about the next week and a half, but if you bump the thread when I'm back, I'll try to work it out for you.

Now that I've been able to get back to troubleshooting...
Here are the logs.. ffdshow gives the "Tuner in use..." msg, the other decoders give a blank screen.
I've tried EVR, VMR9, VMR7 and overlay.. same result. No video.
