I'd guess my dwm memory spikes happened at an average of 4-5 hours or more. It was very intermittent on a heavily used x64 system and I never figured out how to replicate it. I never saw it on the x32 Venue 8 Pro tablet (that had other issues) but I never used it as much.

Is it worth re running the NPVR install and or more extreme measure of doing either a recovery or full wipe and install of W10 AU and then reinstalling programs? If I was to do this is it simply a matter of restoring the public/npvr folder to get all of the settings, databases etc. restored?

To be honest, I doubt it's anything directly related to NextPVR, so reinstalling NextPVR wouldn't make any difference. If anything, it may be to do with your video renderer or graphics card driver and the way it interacts with the Windows Display Manager.

I think there is a problem in Windows 10 1607 itself and the issues happen based on happenstance instead of any particular program itself. My "System Idle Processes" is running in the range of 75 to high 80's on my CPU even when I am active. In other words I think When x number of programs/processes running, the bug comes out and plays and plays and plays and basically goes into "Microsoft cardiac arrest."

Others on Reddit and other forums are having the same issue just different programs and processes. Why it is hitting my System Idle processes while actively doing something and not idle is anyone's guest.

They broke Powershell and Webcam on purpose for Pete's sake, with the AU update and knew they was and is going to make us wait at least until the end of the month for a patch.

If you haven't broken it at least once, you're not doing it right.

I apologise if I am preaching to the choir ... the System Idle process does not exist. It is a row in the Task Manager to show the amount of CPU utilisation that is available ... It is 100% minus the sum of the %age of all other tasks.

I will see what I experience with other video renderers. I've already tried several versions of the drivers for the integrated Intel Graphics with no change. Appreciate your "on topic" advice.

After Anniversary update my DWN.exe was getting as large as 3.6gig. This cause lots of micro-stutters while playing video files (Kodi was fine). Rolled update back and all is fine again.
Lots of discussions going on about a memory leak, specifically after running multiple screens or some games. One guy recorded 128meg per minute increase until it hit 16gig and ran out of memory.
I was trying everything to stop the stuttering when I came across this, might have to wait for a fix.
Tried all sorts of fixes, drivers etc. this is the only thing that worked.
WAF happy again

So yesterday I took the "extreme" step of doing a recovery install of W10 and then reinstalling programs and files...No longer experiencing the high memory issue with DWM.exe when viewing live TV in NPVR or using any other programs for that matter. All is good in HTPC land once again. Thanks for the assistance, especially from Sub!

Things that make you go Hmmmm: Installed Plex Home Theater and it needs to install the DirectX runtime. Upon opening NPVR settings the message that DirectX wasnt present and that software decoding would be used (in so many words) was no longer shown and guess what, watching live TV via NPVR the memory usage in DWM.exe went through the roof again just like before...Plex Home Theater ran fine with no through the roof memory usage in DWM.exe. I've removed Plex Home Theater but unfortunately that does not remove the runtime and it is not listed in the Uninstall Programs section so I continue to have the memory usage issue. Thoughts on how to remove the runtime manually or perhaps simply reinstall the system again (not my favorite thing to do!)...

I am also using Plex server, NettPVR, and Win TV 8. My DWM.exe only grows when using Nextpvr main app and watching TV, and doing playbacks of video recording. Last couple of days, I have been recording shows at night, about 12 for testing using the NextPVR recording service only. No increase in DWM.exe size, so in my case it is in the playback / live TV application portion. When I play back the shows using VLC or Win TV 8, not as nice as NextPVR, no increase in DWM size. Also live TV seems to work fine on Win TV 8, no DWN increase in size. Not sure where the culprit is. May set up Kodi again and give it a go. Plus all the Netflix / ESPN apps work without a hitch.
