I didn't have the problem, I was trying to expand on the question from daphatty. But it's all good.. I d/led but haven't had a chance to lay down the plugin yet.

doing research on MoBo/CPU combos and Audio cards for my new HTPC.

You are correct. The unique ID in Zap is series identifier followed by eposide identifier. For news shows or talk shows there is no eposide identifier therefore all zeros.

I have posted a new update to the wiki site with the following changes:

* New Feature: Added a new Prune Duplicates tab to the settings to allow certain shows to be excluded from the check done to prune duplicate recordings.

Exclusion can be done by matching the trailing characters of the Unique ID (for example, for many news shows or talk shows there is no true unique identifier and unique IDs therefore end with four zeros). Set to blank to disable this feature. Blank is the default.

Exclusion can also be done by matching the show name. Note that the show name is case insensitive, but in all other ways the string must be an exact match in order for duplicates to be allows.

* Bug fix: Fixed caching of poster images.

What happens on the MVP side? Does the screen go blank for some period of time and then come back, does it go to "contracting servers", or something else? Also, what rev of GBPVR do you have installed? I will try to see if I can reproduce the error here. I can also send you the .pdb file which will help at least isolate the line of code that generated the error.

send me the pdb.

The screen does go blank then comes back. I'm using the .918 GBPVR and the second to latest VA. I know, I need to upgrade both, but I usually wait a few days before upgrading.

If this helps...
Before upgrading my VA, my screen almost always went black and never came back. The version I am using now is much better.

Jeff,

Q1 - Is it possible to setup Video Archiver to automatically populate the exclusions list as VA discovers potential conflicts? (If Recording B UID = Recording A UID then Add Conflict to Prune Duplicates list.)

Q2 - Is it possible to add a feature where VA automatically alters the unique ID such that the episode identifier is replaced with the airing date to allow the Archive funtion to proceed without deleting any previous recordings? (If Recording B UID = Recording A UID then truncate last four digits of Recording B UID and replace with airdate. mmdd or ddmm depending on your locale.)

With respect to Q1, the duplicates logic for the Video Archiver is pretty straight forward, right now by design. For something more sophisticated you might want to look at the ckdscheduler. I have not used this tool myself but I believe it is designed for things like you describe.

For Q2, I am not sure I understand. The plug-in never deletes recordings that are already recorded. Deletion can only be done manually (and by default the plug-in asks you to confirm all deletes). The archive utility will move recordings from one disk to another but also will not delete them. The only thing the plug-in will do with the new features is, optionally, cancel upcoming recordings to prevent duplicates. If you want to allow recordings of duplicates for a given show name you can just add them to the exclusions list. There is no need to rename anything. GBPVR will automatically give the recordings different names because they will be recorded at different dates and times. The video archiver will correctly list both shows in the list (with the same name listed) and show the proper details for each show in the details. In fact, it is this behavior that lead me to create the function to prevent duplicates from being recorded. I record lots of kids sows for my children and kid shows seem to repeat at an alarming rate.
