What's confusing to me is that I can play the mkv video with WMP on the Client but the Client NPVR won't play that same video. I can play that same mkv video on both NPVR and WMP on the server. What am I missing?

I do have the LAV (paid) decoders on both the Client and the Server.

Log file attempting to play mkv attached. I can hear sound but no video. Playback stops shortly before logfile should end.

Any reason why you didn't recommend the SAF decoder set? I thought the SAF package was the recommended set for NextPVR. Is SAF no good for WMP?
I've never used these decoders, and I don't know what exactly it installs - so I wouldn't be comfortable recommending it myself.

I'm not aware of any payed option with the LAV decoders.

Just run the official LAV installer, and let us know if it helps:

I must have been thinking of the SAF decoders. The mkv in question now plays in NPVR after adding the LAV decoders you provided. Thanks, Sub, and to all who answered.

I've just installed NextPVR. My problem is in Settings---> Decoders. I cannot select decoders. I have no options other than what is listed on the Decoders page. For example, I can't type in Cyberlink or any other MPEG-2 decoder I already have installed. Can anyone help with this?

The decoders you're getting listed are the only 32 bit decoders installed, that are claiming to support those specific codecs. NextPVR is just asking Windows for the list. If you have other decoders not showing up, then you might have to register them before Windows will see them.

After spending several frustrating and unsuccessful hours trying Matt's method, I went to the LAV download, and everything was up and running in mere seconds. Matt's method kept replying that a Microsoft license was required. Now, for some reason I cannot download the shows using the EPG. Originally, it did download the available programs with quite a few errors, but now, nothing. And even if it did work well, what good is an EPG that only looks 300 minutes beyond the scheduled download? Do I have to keep rescheduling a current download every 300 minutes? This program needs a lot of work, and if the programmers decide to finish it (so anyone can use it) I would be happy to buy it. This is the reason it only generated $1600 in all of last year. I need a program that makes viewing live and recorded TV easy to use. I'm not looking for something awkward to use. It needs to have the same features that Windows Media Center (WMC) has. Then it would be a program that people would buy. And, I think there would be a market for it, especially since WMC is only available up to Windows 7.

It sounds like you are using the broadcast EPG data. In North America , this is only a few hours of data for over-the-air broadcasts. Most US users use Schedules Direct to obtain EPG data ... http://www.schedulesdirect.org/
