File Conversion MP4/MKV like to MPG via ffmpeg - need HELP

Personally, I use MCEBuddy with Comskip to remove the commercials and convert them to MP4's. Have done literally hundreds of recorded TV shows and movies without disappointment.

My sincere apologies for hijacking this thread...

I will *seriously* buy you a case of beer if you can give me a comskip ini file that processes american television with that kind of accuracy.
After years of trying I have never achieved better than ~80% accuracy with comskip. I would never dream of automatically cutting out ads from tv shows. They would be butchered.
I know it can be done. My Tivo did a marvelous job until a lightning strike killed it (with non-transferable lifetime service!) last week.

No worries about the hijack Jim, it's a good way to get what you need

~80% that's good.... I run the video through VideoRedo's Ad detective and I have to check every proposed cut.
Quite often there is no blank frame between the show and the ad.

I think I will stick with my current solution which is .....
ffmpeg -i "%~dpn1.ts" -vcodec mpeg2video -aspect 16:9 -profile:v 4 -level:v 6 -b:v 8000k -bufsize 25000k -maxrate 25000k -vf "yadif=0:-1" -acodec ac3 -ab 256k -ar 48000 -ac 2 -f vob "F:\Converted_2_MPG\To_Extract\%~n1.mpg"
or variations thereof.

I guess it goes back to defining [I]"without disappointment"[/I.] Also which version of Comskip you use. I use the paid "donators" version.

Comskip is not perfect by no means. I would venture the only accurate way would be manually cutting the commercials out.

I would agree with you 80% or so as my definition. I rarely have ComSkip remove part of a show itself but I do get a commercial here or there that should have been cut out but wasn't because a network commercial came on after the black frames then the local station starts a local commercial over the network commercial, just a few second or less after the national feed commercial.

With that said, most of my channels (all OTA, no cable) give enough black screen between the show and the start of a commercial to cut it correctly.
