At least you can rule out decoders etc.

If you can post your logs while recording, we can see if anything stands out.

By default the Extend should be converting MPEG2 to MPEG4 on the fly. I think there is a setting that you can turn "off" MPEG4 transcoding and just the MPEG2 stream is sent. I also believe there are a couple of MPEG4 bit stream settings you can set the Extend to use in transcoding MPEG2 to MPEG4.

Have you tried using Windows Media Player to access the Extend and play a channel?

I would also make sure that the Extend is running the latest filmware. SD just recently released a new update.

So I am re-reading what you said. I opened Windows Media Player and I can play the Recorded TV files with no problems. I am trying to find any setting to turn "off" MPEG4 transcoding.

Also, my HD HR firmware is up to date.

jerlasvegas Wrote:Okay, I've tried creating a recording and then played back the .ts file in VLC. Unfortunately I got the same result. So does that mean it is having the same issue encoding?

I found out that if Transcode is set to Heavy, then the stream is H.264 when NextPVR receives it. As mentioned, there is a way to disable the MPEG4 encoding, and that is to disable Transcode Profile. The stream then is MEPG2. However, I have the same exact problems.

I did find a workaround though. If I add an IPTV channel and use the channel url, the stream plays fine with the LAV Video Decoder H.264 and Transcode Profile set to Heavy. I will probably just add all the channels I want via IP and link the XMLTV EPG Guide to each channel.

I will have to test how recording works, but I presume it should work just fine. If anyone has any other input, let me know.

So instead of using the HD Homerun from Devices in the NextPVR Device Setup, I chose IPTV and entered the channel URL of the channel and selected H.264. I then linked the XML Guides and I have EPG for all the channels.

Everything plays through NextPVR flawlessly. Recording records and plays back flawlessly in NextPVR or VLC. This setup works great so I will just leave it at that.

Thank you all for the suggestions and information. It helped me find the solution!

The problem with using that approach is that NextPVR will assume you have infinite available channels - it wont know that your device only supports 2 IPTV channels at the same time (two tuners), so it'll let you schedule more recordings than that simultaneously.

Good to know. Fortunately the odds of me having the desire to record more than 1 channel at a time, let alone 3 is comparable to my desire to join the Kremlin Smile But seriously, there are many out there who could try and not realize.

Seeing as how it isn't a disadvantage for me, are there any other disadvantages over using the tuner from NextPVR that you can think of?

Thank you for your advice!

I would treat your IPTV as a temporary solution to your problem. Your problem is why does Nextpvr seem to choke on your your Extend device. There has to be hundreds of users of NextPVR that have either a Connect, Extend, or Prime (and combinations) and they all accessed as physical devices (not IPTV).

Sub will have to verify, but my understanding is that Nextpvr does not perform a physical channel scan on the SD devices, but uses an xaml file the SD software produces when you perform a channel scan when you installed the software for your Extend. I wonder if there is something wrong with that channel file that the SD software produces.
