Does WinTV work? If you haven't installed it do you have an mpeg decoder installed. You might need to install LAV.

WinTV does not work. It doesn't even find the tuner in its Devices tab where one is supposed to setup the tuner, but I've had that problem a number of times with WinTV so I went looking for something else to use on my current system and am trying NPVR. I just reinstalled NPVR and I didn't do the channel scan or anything else, but just went to Settings>Decoders and it freezes up as before without displaying the complete dialog. NVPR will find the tuner, find channels during the scan, so it's a step or two beyond what WinTV does. I don't have WinTV installed, but I did install the drivers via the Hauppauge driver install .exe. If I didn't, Device Manager does not recognize the Hauppauge other than as a "Multimedia Device" still needing a driver.

Update: WinTV working now after I moved the tuner card from a x16 PCIe slot to a x1 PCIe slot, and updated the motherboard BIOS. I'm not sure which change made WinTV recognize the tuner card. Problem with NPVR still exists.

I have no idea why you created 3 separate posts the same problem. I've merged them together.

Because I couldn't find a way to add the requested logs to the original post.

I think you've got a bad decoder on your machine. Basically NextPVR is asking Windows for the list of decoders on your machine, and it looks like the call is never returning.

You could have either selected 'Edit Post' -> 'Go Advanced' then add attachment, or could of just added an extra post to the existing thread saying something like "and here are the logs".

Well now I know, then. I went looking for a facility to add the attachments, but didn't find one, but indeed found the button on a new post. This is a new account so maybe that had something to do with it, or not being logged in, or page not refreshed...

That sounds plausible, but not easy to troubleshoot (for me). Resolution may be delayed until the next time I reinstall Windows and programs. That said, the exception is not being handled in the NPVR software, and should be fixed.

The klite codec pack attempts to fix bad direct show installs. Since WinTV doesn't install your machine needs work.

If a hang happens in a decoder then unfortunately it is a low level exception that NextPVR can't handle.

There is no error or exception. It's simply taking windows a very very long time to return on the call to get the list of decoders. If I had to work around this unusual circumstance in NextPVR, I could put the call on a background thread, and time it out after a few seconds or something - but you're still not going have anything in your list of decoders, so it wouldn't really help you.

You're not entirely alone though - I think we've seen this maybe 3 or 4 times in the 15 years of NextPVR (and the earlier GBPVR software), from 10's of thousands of users, so certainly not a common problem. I don't see it as a NextPVR problem, but rather a bug in one of the DirectShow decoders in your machine. I'm not aware of any other way I could get the list of decoders that would avoid this problem.
