Yes when I use the Hauppauge tuner on this (Windows 8) pc - I am using my Hauppauge tuner on a different pc right - now not this pc!

Then you will need softpvr for analog support. @Graham in North America users still use the analog SD output from their cable boxes.

Am I right that the Avermedia tuner card that you have is able to receive digital ATSC broadcasts via a coax cable from an antenna? Do you have an antenna cable plugged into the card?
Yes, but it is not receiving digital ATSC signals - see zipped scan! The hardware in TV tuner devices for computers is often less sensitive than in a real TV. The scan process for a tuner in a computer requires a good signal. You might find that you are able to scan for digital channels if you temporarily remove splitters and extension coax cables and try the scan again. Point taken, but everything is properly hooked up for ATSC digital channel scan. What is it that you want to do with the "Channel Master digital to analog converter/tuner"? Am I right that this device is designed to receive digital ATSC broadcasts from an antenna and convert the signal to an analog signal that can be used with an older TV? Yes! It is my understanding that analog NTSC TV to an antenna is not being broadcast in the US. The use of a digital-to-analog converter might not be necessary if your Avermedia card is able to receive digital broadcasts. The ATSC scan is not working on the ATSC port; so I want to use the analog port to hook up a digital to analog tuner/converter to try the analog signal port! The Hauppauge tuner is now on a different pc, can I install the Hauppauge SoftPVR sorftware in this situation? Thank you!

You've mentioned a couple of different methods to potentially get tv. Specifically, ATSC, and analog from a digital-to-analog convert box. A couple of thoughts and things to be aware of...
ATSC (for digital TV) - you'll only get this when the antenna is connected directly to your AverMedia device. If your Channel Master box is connected before the AverMedia device, then there will be no ATSC signals present. The output from the Channel Master device will be analog only. Analog (for analog for Channel Master converter box) - officially NextPVR only supports analog with Hauppauge devices (and you need to have the WinTV software installed). Some people have successfully managed to get analog working with other manufacturers devices, but this often requires additional setup steps. These steps can be a bit involved, so unless the 'Analog' device is listed on your Settings->Devices screen you can probably assume your device isn't supported for analog. That said, given the device hasn't worked so far in either Mediaportal or NextPVR, it sounds like you've not been able to confirm the device as working since updating your version of Windows to Windows 8. There is good chance your device is in a non-functional state. If that is the case, it's not going to matter what NextPVR (or Mediaportal) settings you tweak - these aren't going to fix a device that isn't working.

@wmnally5 - what is the model number or name of your Avermedia card? If it is A188, a common one, then it does not do analog, only ATSC. If it is another model that does do analog, then, in addition, it must work with the Hauppauge component that comes as part of WinTV; NPVR relies on this component to acquire an analog signal. (The above assumes you are using the tuner box between the antenna and the computer.) Does the Avermedia card work with WinTV? If not, it most likely will not work with NPVR.
If the Avermedia card has an ATSC tuner, then you don't need the separate ATSC-to-analog tuner box, you can just connect the antenna directly to the Avermedia card.

@wmnally5 - what is the model number or name of your Avermedia card?
It is an AverMedia M791B; the NPVR software loaded the AverMedia 23888 BDA Tuner/Demod device

You still haven't explained how you want to use the Channel Master device. It is useless with the HDHR.

(If the device is still present in your machine though, it'll be redetected and reappear next time you return to screen) Quote:Do I reinstall NPVR, once the the Silicon Dust HomeRun is installed? After you install the "HDHomeRun Software for Windows" from https://www.silicondust.com/support/downloads/ then the device will show up on the NextPVR Settings->Devices screen, and you can scan for channels. Make sure you don't have the Channel Master converter box connected before the HDHomeRun though - you need a direct connection to the antenna, so that the HDHomeRun has access to the digital transmissions.

Hello
Be aware that I completely abandoned the Channel Master analog idea! Thanks for the information on the Silicon Dust HomeRun Connect. The information that you provided is what I have been instructed to do. You can close this communication, as I will start a new communication with you only if I have to! I appreciate everyone's help. and will use NPVR again with my the Silicon Dust HomeRun. Be aware that I will not be installing right away - I do not have the time right now! |
