Hi, no i mean something different, and i will explain a little bit, i hope my english is good enough.....

I am using a decicated PC as a Mediacenter PC. I do this for an extremly long time, comming from Mediacenter Windows XP. And now using KODI first with TV_Mosic as backend, and now i moved to NPVR.
To control everything i am using a Harmony Remote Control.

Windows Mediacenter and also TV-Mosaic did not allow to send the PC into Standby while a recording was running. With NPVR, if i hit the power button on my remote accidently for example, hte PC goes into standby, and the recording is damaged.

Other softwares did not allow that, and it would be nice to see an option that NPVR also does not allow standby while a recording is running. Especially with a remote control you can accidently hit the button, or in case of a harmony remote, you program tasks, that wake the devices for an action. But if you send a "power" key to mediacenter pc, is just damages the running recordings.

I hope i could explain that you understand what i mean. It must be possible, because other softwares do it.

In NextPVR V4 ... the NextPVR Tray App would prevent the machine going to sleep while recording.  It appears that feature has not yet made its way into NextPVR V5.

OK. Thats why i wrote it. Would be nice to see this feature. But this should be controlled in background (service based). Because i think a lot of users do use for example kodi as frontend, and NPVR as baclend.

Would be good, if the status symbol in the tray, that runs does this job. Dont know if you mean that with tray app.

Yes ... that's the NextPVR Tray App.

OK, would be great to see this soon. While a recording is running -> standby is blocked even when a standby command is received.

The current version of the tray application does attempt block shutdown (using ShutdownBlockReason and WM_QUERYENDSESSION), in the same way NextPVR v4 did, but it like the behavior on Win10 when tried it, so I decided against listing it as a feature in the current release.

Give it a go though, and let me know what happens when you try to put it into standby.

I was able to put my machine to sleep while it was recording ... it blue screened when I woke it up (so it may look like a shutdown in the logs) ... Animal Park was recording.

I was also able to shutdown while recording ... ITV Evening News was recording.

Here I when I tried shutting down, Windows closed a pile of apps, before eventually stopping the process to say 'NextPVR is currently recording'. Letting it even begin shutting stuff down makes it next to useless for me.

As I said, it's not officially a feature. I may revisit again some time in the future. It's not high on priority list though.

If I was an MCE remote user the smart thing to do is turn off the button to shutdown or suspend the PC via the remote, let NextPVR control sleep and use a client that supports sending WOL.

It was straight forward to do this on XP. You got notification when the user hit the sleep button and the machine was about to go into standby, and you got a notification and a had the chance to deny that request. Unfortunately all the Microsoft documents I've been looking at today seem to indicate these calls were removed after Windows Vista.

I've attached an updated tray app you can try, which does things a different way. When a user tries to request standby and it's recording, the monitors etc go off, but the machine doesn't fully shutdown, and the recording continues. When the user tries to request a stand by and it's not recording, it goes into standby normally.
